Barrier is a mechanic introduced with the Atlas of Discovery Expansion. A Barrier is a secondary health bar that some Monsters have that appears above the normal health bar in combat.
Mechanics
A monster with Barrier cannot have its health reduced by any means (including debuffs like Bleeds or Poisons). In order to kill these monsters, their Barrier must first be reduced to 0.
Barriers can only be damaged by the attacks of
Familiars or by the player while wearing items that add Player Barrier Damage such as the Barrier Gem. There are a variety of items in the Atlas of Discovery expansion which increase the effectiveness of Familiars. Some enemies have a passive ability by which they regenerate barrier by 25% every 7 attack turns. This regeneration effect can happen after their Barrier has reached 0. When the Enemy regenerates Barrier, they will gain a debuff that applies +5% Attack Interval, -10% Global Accuracy, and -10% Global Evasion, stacking up to 4 times. Monsters from Eye-conic Cave, Mucky Cave,
,
, Golem Territory &
do not regenerate Barrier.
Getting Started
- Most, if not all, gear from the base game can be upgraded once into (B) Barrier Gear which typically give +x Flat Summoning Damage as well as +x% Summoning Familiar damage added as extra damage to Barrier
- Starting from (B) Mithril, (B) Green D-hide, and (B) Acolyte Wizard, (B) Barrier Gear will provide +x% chance to dodge Crystallization from being applied which is essential when dealing with mobs that apply Crystallization, like those found in Error creating thumbnail: File missingCrystal Caves
- Melee gear starting from Mithril can be further upgraded into (C) Barrier Gear. Starting from (C) Rune, these give +x% chance to dodge Crystal Sanction from being applied which is essential when fighting mobs from Error creating thumbnail: File missingCrystal Depths
- Starting from (B) Mithril, (B) Green D-hide, and (B) Acolyte Wizard, (B) Barrier Gear will provide +x% chance to dodge Crystallization from being applied which is essential when dealing with mobs that apply Crystallization, like those found in
- There's a few options for a starting Barrier gem. A Basic Barrier Gem and Barrier Gem can be obtained from Error creating thumbnail: File missingArchaeology at level 1 and 6 respectively. You may also obtain a Barrier Touch Gem from Eye-conic Cave. These will be quickly replaced by the Sapping Barrier Gem.
- An Amulet of Barrier Touch and Ring of Barrier Touch can be made in Error creating thumbnail: File missingCrafting at level 20. The necklace will be quickly replaced by the Lesser Summoning Amulet.
- The Lesser Summoning Amulet from Blind Ghost in Eye-conic Cave is quite powerful for a while
- The Blind Warrior in Eye-conic Cave drops a Barrier Touch Shield. You may also get a Book of Occults from Necromancer if you have the Combat stats to do so
- The Vampiric Bat in Mucky Cave drops Barrier Sapping Gloves and Sapping Barrier Gem which is an upgrade to all the previously mentioned Barrier Gems. These gloves can be upgraded into Barrier Draining Gloves after you have beaten Golem Territory and obtained 10 Draining Barrier Gems. There is a Township task that will give 3 Draining Barrier Gems upon 1 completion of Golem Territory
- The Tortoise and it's synergies can be good for dealing with harder Barrier mobs and Dungeons however using this early is quite over kill

These are Summoner's Defender, obtained from Trickery Temple, which can be upgraded into Knight's Summoning Defender, the Summoner's Blessed Ring obtained from Cult Grounds, and the Summoner's Blessing which is a consumable that is purchased from the Shop for 100 and 10 Museum Token each
