There are quite a few ways of making money in Melvor Idle. Below a few of them have been written out.
Mining Dragon Ore (Max 162k/hr)
Mining Dragon Ore is one of the best late game money making method. It requires 95 mining and 270 total mastery in mining. The rate at which you earn money using this method is dependent upon the pickaxe level you have bought, as well as the mastery you have in mining dragon ore. This is because the pickaxe increases mining speed and the mastery level determines the amount of ore you can extract from a rock before it has to heal.
Please note that using mining gloves is currently not worth it. This is because the gloves cost more per ore mined than you will gain by selling that extra ore.
Mastery | Rock HP | gp/hr |
---|---|---|
1 | 6 | 19,440 |
2 | 7 | 22,680 |
5 | 10 | 31,200 |
10 | 15 | 45,000 |
25 | 30 | 75,600 |
50 | 55 | 112,200 |

Mining gems (Max 407k/hr)
For this strategy you have to buy the Gem Gloves in the shop. These gloves give you a 100% chance of getting a gem each time you mine an ore. Given that the gloves cost 250 gp per charge and you get an average of 423 gp per gem you mine, this can quickly lead to some nice profits. Same as with the mining dragon ore strategy, you need to equip the best possible pickaxe because this increases your mining speed, and get as high a mastery as possible because this improves the amount of gems you can get from a rock before it has to heal.
It is suggested to mine coal without selling it; This is due to needing massive amounts in the smithing skill. you will inevitably need tons of the stuff so you might as well get it while you are making money, and because this ore has a reasonably fast respawn time. This will of course slightly lower your profits, but not enough to really matter.
Below is a table that gives you an estimate of earnings per hour for a couple of mastery levels. This is the approximate amount earned if you sell the coal, and if you keep it.
Mastery | Rock HP | gp/hr selling coal | gp/hr keeping coal |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 6 | 211,632 | 196,890 |
2 | 7 | 228,615 | 212,690 |
5 | 10 | 268,740 | 250,020 |
10 | 15 | 307,931 | 286,481 |
25 | 30 | 363,918 | 338,568 |
50 | 55 | 390,046 | 362,876 |
99 | 104 | 407,589 | 379,197 |
Chopping Magic Logs (Max 172k/hr)
Magic logs are the most expensive logs in the game. As such they are a decent money maker. Each log sells for 300 GP and takes 12.5 seconds to cut with the Dragon Axe. That means that you can get 86k gp per hour chopping magic trees.
If you have Level 99 Woodcutting, equipping the Woodcutting Skillcape will double the speed at which you can cut trees. This will double the amount of GP you earn, with a potential to earn up to 172k/hr.
Combat
Combat can be a reasonably lucrative money making strategy. But because combat is getting an update in the alpha v0.10 update, I will be waiting with posting this guide until then.
