Upgrading items, also known as trimming, is a way to improve an item. An item can be upgraded by clicking on it in the bank, and then clicking upgrade. A window will appear with the stats of the upgraded item, what the upgrade will cost, and a button to finish the upgrade. An armour piece must first be upgraded to (S) using {{ItemIcon|Silver Bar|Silver Bars}} and {{GP}} [[GP]], before it can be upgraded to (G) using {{ItemIcon|Gold Bar|Gold Bars}} and {{GP}} [[GP]]. Item upgrades cannot be reversed and the costs associated with the upgrade cannot be recuperated.

Some items may also be downgraded. This includes:
* Perfect Cooked Foods which are downgraded into their non-perfect variants
* {{ItemIcon|Mysterious Stone}} into {{ItemIcon|Charge Stone of Rhaelyx}}
* {{ItemIcon|Bundle of Rope}} into {{ItemIcon|Rope}}
Note that items such as Potions cannot be downgraded.
