Easter Eggs

Revision as of 20:08, 23 June 2024 by Ricewind (talk | contribs)

This page contains all current and past Easter Eggs implemented into Melvor Idle.

Amulet of Calculated Promotion

The   Amulet of Calculated Promotion was added in the Alpha v0.12 update and was the first Easter egg item to be added to the game. Twitch streamer witwix has promoted Melvor Idle on his stream by discussing the game with his community, leading to an increase in active players. The amulet was added as a response by the developer to show his appreciation for this promotion. The amulet is obtainable by name changing to witwix (case sensitive) and opening the   Chest of Witwix, which is dropped by   Leeches. The chest will always contain the   Amulet of Calculated Promotion if the player's character name is witwix.

Clue Chasers Insignia

Bank layout to obtain Clue Chasers Insignia.

The   Clue Chasers Insignia was added in the Alpha v0.14 update and was teased with a clue which requires metagaming to solve. The clue for how to obtain the amulet was left in the patch notes:

"The Numbers, mason, What do they mean?!"

The clue is a red herring reference to a cutscene from the game Call of Duty: Black Ops. The numbers important for solving the clue come from the TV show Lost, which uses the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42, as a part of the show's mythology. Prior to V1.1 when the game's internal item IDs were numeric, the numbers corresponded to the 'item ID' of items in Melvor Idle, where 4 was   Maple Logs, 8 was   Redwood Logs, 15 was   Raw Swordfish, 16 was   Raw Crab, 23 was   Herring, and 42 was   Burnt Cave Fish. These items must be manually placed in the aforementioned order, so that the first 6 slots of the Bank contain them. The items were previously required to be in specific quantities, although this requirement was removed in V1.1 meaning that only the specific items and the correct order is required. These specific quantities were discovered by reversing the number sequence, and were as shown below.

42   Maple Logs, 23   Redwood Logs, 16   Raw Swordfish, 15   Raw Crab, 8   Herring, 4   Burnt Cave Fish.

From the release of V1.1, the internal IDs the game uses for referencing objects such as items changed from numeric to namespaced IDs, rendering the original hint largely irrelevant. In addition, the quantity requirement was relaxed, allowing the required items to be of any quantity, as long as they are in the required order. The   Burnt Cave Fish description was changed to reference the original method - each grouping of three numbers separated by a question mark indicates the item's position within the bank, the item's numeric ID, and the item's quantity in that order.

Once the items have been moved to the first 6 slots within the leftmost tab of the Bank in the correct order, the   Clue Chasers Insignia will be automatically awarded. If the amulet is not awarded immediately, the player should swap two of the items and then swap them back into the correct order. If there is already a   Clue Chasers Insignia in the bank, or if the order of items is wrong, the amulet will not be awarded. If the amulet is equipped, sold or lost, it can be obtained again using the same method.

69(lol)

"69(lol)" is a

Easter Egg where "(lol)" is added next to every instance of 69 appearing on the

Farming

page. Whenever any planted seed has 69 minutes remaining until grown, the information tile will read "Time Left: About 69(lol) mins" remaining. This Easter Egg was added in the Alpha v0.12 update, which made changes to the

Farming

UI.

Yep, still undefined

The   Slayer Cowl (Basic) had a description of "Yep, still undefined". This is due to a bug where the description was "undefined" for a period of time, but after the developer fixed it, the bug returned and so did the bug reports. In response, the developer decided to just change the item description to "Yep, still undefined" after that.

This description was replaced with a description of the item's passive effect as part of the Alpha v0.18.0 update.

Sell x6,969M

Prior to the Bank rework introduced in Alpha v0.17.0, changing the amount to "ALL" when selling items from the Bank would set the sell amount to 6,969M by default.

Insubordinate

When changing the player's username, leaving the "New Desired Username" box blank will result in having the name "Insubordinate". This also occurs when creating a new game, and not setting a username.

Golbins

Prior to patch version Alpha v0.13, some of the creatures were erroneously named Goblin, which is a creature from European folklore, used most commonly in fantasy settings today. Patch Alpha v0.13 changed all creatures named Goblin to   Golbin, which is the developer's unique spin on the Goblin archetype.

Golden Golbin

The

is a pet that can only be obtained by getting a   Golbin kill count of 42,069.

Fanfish

The   Raw Fanfish icon shows the fish smiling, however once cooked into a   Fanfish, the smile is instead replaced with a frown.

Bank Searches

wherearemylemons

Using "wherearemylemons" to add Lemons to the bank.

Typing "wherearemylemons" into the Bank search bar will add a   Lemon to the player's Bank.   Lemon,   Lemons, and   Lemonade are joke items added in the April Fools 2020 Event, patch v0.14.69.

8

Typing "8" into the Bank search bar will add a   8 to the player's Bank. On use, it has an 1/8 chance to add 8 new   8's to the bank, and has a sell value of 8 . This Easter egg was added in the Alpha v0.15 update. This can only be done once every 8 seconds.

uuddlrlrba

Typing "uuddlrlrba" into the Bank search bar causes a fireworks effect to occur for 10 seconds. This effect is otherwise only seen when the player reaches a significant milestone, such as reaching skill level 99 in any Skill.

The search phrase is a reference to the well-known Konami Code.

Lemon

Lemon is an Easter Egg item which was previously given to the player in place of an   Aorpheat's Signet Ring piece, when the requirement of wearing a   Gold Topaz Ring was not met. This was changed to instead drop a Gold Topaz Ring in Alpha v0.16.3. See   Signet Ring Half (a) and   Signet Ring Half (b) for more details on how to find the   Aorpheat's Signet Ring.

Monster and Item Names

A possible early iteration of the art for Malcs, the Guardian of Melvor.

Malcs, the Guardian of Melvor, is a combat level 677 dungeon boss named after the developer of the game.   Prat, the Protector of Secrets is a combat level 360 dungeon monster named after the "artist", writer, and Discord moderator of the game, Prat. The Cape of Prat is also named after Prat, with the flavour text, "You're more accurate when you're naked." The text is purely for flavour and has no mechanical impact. The text is a reference to an in-joke between the developer and Prat.

Pet Names

Many of the pets in the game are named after characters from popular culture or individuals/real-life pets.

Wandering Bard

The   Wandering Bard was introduced in the Alpha v0.18.0 update, and was described in the changelog as "A Hidden Easter Egg Monster". This monster cannot be encountered normally, as it does not appear within any Combat Area, Slayer Area, or Dungeon. Instead this monster may only be encountered randomly when the player obtains a new normal tier

task.

Easter Egg

Easter Egg is an item that was introduced during the Alpha v0.19.2 update, and could be obtained by successfully defeating a   Chicken in

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Chaos

mode. In

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Chaos

mode,   Chickens always performed an unavoidable attack which would instantly kill the player, and so the only way to defeat   Chickens was to obtain enough attack speed reduction (via the

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Chaos

mode item corruption mechanic) such that the player's attack would occur before the   Chicken could attack. Once defeated, an   Easter Egg would be added to the player's bank. The   Easter Egg could only be legitimately obtained with a

Chaos

mode character, and as of Alpha v0.21 cannot be obtained at all.

Cool Glasses

Cool Glasses were introduced as part of the Alpha v0.21 update, in which a rewrite of combat (including support for the long-awaited offline combat) was introduced. The glasses are a tribute to the developer of the combat rewrite, Coolrox95.

The   Cool Glasses may be obtained by petting the

pet 95 times.

Red Herring

Red Herring was originally added as part of the Alpha v0.21 update, although could not be legitimately obtained until Alpha v0.22. This was done in order to reserve the item ID 1,000 for this item, making it the 1,001st item added to the game.

To obtain the   Red Herring, the player must first meet all of the following requirements:

Once the requirements are met, the   Red Herring will have a 1-in-10,000 (or 0.01%) chance of dropping while fishing for   Raw Herring.

Abnormal Log

Abnormal Log was originally added as part of the Alpha v0.21 update, although could not be legitimately obtained until Alpha v0.22. This was done in order to reserve the item ID 999 for this item, making it the 1,000th item added to the game.

To obtain the Abnormal Log, the player must first meet all of the following requirements:

Once the requirements are met, the   Abnormal Log will have a 1-in-10,000 (or 0.01%) chance of dropping while pickpocketing the

Lemon Cake

Unique recipe UI for the Lemon Cake.

Lemon Cake and   Lemon Cake (Perfect) were originally introduced during the Alpha v0.22 update, although they could not be legitimately obtained until V1.0.3.

These items were first added as part of the

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Cooking

rework in V0.22, however the recipe for these items unusually has no

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Mastery

like other recipes, causing a number of issues when attempting to create the recipe with the intended implementation. As a result, the items were instead added into the game data without any legitimate method to create or obtain them. This was later resolved as part of V1.0.3, being the update in which Cooking became a tick-based skill.

To obtain the Lemon Cake and its perfect variant, the player must first meet all of the following requirements:

Once the requirements are met, Lemon Cake can be selected as a recipe from the Furnace and created like any other cooking recipe. The recipe has a few unique visual elements, namely:

  • The item
    Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Mastery
level permanently remains at level 69 with 4.20% progress to the next level. The cake does not actually have any mastery, and these values do not change no matter how many times the recipe is created
  • The usual action time icon is replaced a lemon-colored clock
  • The   Bag of Flour and   Cream icons are alternative versions only seen within this recipe

Lemon Township

Released in V1.1,

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Township

has a hidden unselectable worship called Lemon. This worship provides no benefits or disadvantages. Its associated unobtainable Statue of Worship is

. In addition, there is a building called the

that provides no benefits whatsoever. As of V1.1.2, this building is hidden and cannot be built.

Lemvor

Atlas of Discovery introduced a new skill,

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Cartography

which allows you to discover Points of Interest around the map of Melvor. Most POIs are visible while in sight range of them while others have specific requirements to be able to see. One of these hidden POIs is the Portal to Lemvor. A small map that is a... lemon.

To find this Point of Interest, the player must:

After wearing the Cool Glasses, the Portal to Lemvor will be visible at (6, 12) in the map of Melvor. The internal location of this POI is (6, 9). Unlike Melvor, Lemvor requires you to spend Lemons to travel around. The player can get an infinite amount of lemons through the bank so there is never an instance where you can get stuck here.
