To maximise the chance of obtaining special items, players may:

* Gaining a mastery level of at least 50 in the fish being caught, which increases the special chance by 3%

* Reducing the catch time by purchasing [[#Fishing Rods|fishing rod upgrades]] and equipping the {{ItemIcon|Amulet of Fishing}}

* Reaching the 95% [[#Mastery Pool Checkpoints|Mastery pool checkpoint]]

* Increasing the {{Skill|Astrology}} Ameria Constellation item mastery, which increases the special chance by a potential amount of 15%
