Rune Essence.
Increasing Rates
The main ways to increase rates is theError creating thumbnail: File missing
Mole

Crow Synergy and the 
Scroll Of Essence. The Scroll of Essence will increase the base Rune Essence quantity from 2 to 3 and the Synergy will double it to 6. Stacking as much doubling (which increases the drop quantity to 12 when triggered) and interval boosts as possible will further increase rates.
Rates can also be slightly improved with Mining Node Hitpoints, chance to deal no damage to Essence Nodes in Mining, Mining node respawn interval, and Chance to gain +1 additional resource in Mining (Cannot be doubled) boosts.
TheError creating thumbnail: File missing
Into the Abyss Expansion adds a variety of +1 additional quantity of primary resource which also massively improve rates however they are not easily accessible until very late into the game.
