I highly recommend doing {{Skill|Slayer}} for early levels and unlocking {{UpgradeIcon|Auto Slayer}} as quickly as possible. Not only will it give great XP, it will also level your skills.
If you play actively, you can start with {{Skill|Slayer}} early. If you want to progress in it, unlocking {{UpgradeIcon|Auto Slayer}} should be your first goal. You will also level your combat skills along the way.

One of the most common noob traps is ignoring {{Skill|Slayer}} early, then realizing later that you need {{ItemIcon|Slayer Helmet (Elite)|Elite Slayer}} / {{ItemIcon|Slayer Helmet (Master)|Master Slayer}} gear. It takes 15 Normal Slayer tasks to buy the {{ItemIcon|Slayer Helmet (Basic)|Basic Slayer gear}}. The {{ItemIcon|Slayer Gear Upgrade Kit (Strong)}} / {{ItemIcon|Slayer Gear Upgrade Kit (Elite)}} / {{ItemIcon|Slayer Gear Upgrade Kit (Master)}} take 25 Hard Tasks / 30 Elite Tasks / 40 Master Tasks respectively.
If you idle, it is okay to leave Slayer until you need the bonuses from its gear or drops from its monsters. The Slayer activity picks up closer to the time of {{ZoneIcon|Volcanic Cave}}, and you will be able to catch up quickly with all the gear that you have at that point.

Slayer Areas sometimes require items that must be purchased using [[slayer coins]] from the [[Shop]]. You should try and acquire these as soon as possible. One note, the monsters locked in these areas will not be rolled in slayer tasks until the item is purchased from the shop. You can leverage this to control the task rolls.
