Why clear Air God Dungeon?
TL;DR
* Perpetual Haste - massively speeds up Crafting and Fletching.
Farm the Ancient Claw with the Ancient Magick build right after you finish .
* - ranged best-in-slot. This set is mandatory to idle the Water God Dungeon. You will also need to later upgrade them into the Poison Virulence Gloves.
* Deadeye Amulet - ranged best-in-slot.
* Deadeye Ring - you will need 10 of them to later upgrade into the Poison Virulence Ring.
* Stormsnap - Situationally useful, but almost mandatory for farming the Ocean Song later.

According to the simulator:
Introduction
* If you want the full Armour set, then you need to clear the dungeon 91 times for 75% of that happening or 192 times for 95%.
Ancient Claw is largely the best melee weapon that does not require late-game content to obtain.
* If you want the full set and Stormsnap, then it's 277 times for 75% and 576 times for 95%.

Gear to idle
The Ancient Claw is assembled from the Ancient Claw Fragment that drop only from the . You need to kill 3333 Pegasus on average to get enough fragments.

Due to the Combat Triangle, it's recommended to beat the Air God Dungeon with Melee because the enemies here are Ranged and Melee.
The question is when to farm it and what combat style is the best for that. The main point of contention is whether to farm it before or after the Volcanic Cave because this dungeon is farmed with a Melee build and is vital for idling the Air God Dungeon.

The following build can idle the dungeon with Hitpoints. Check your own setup with the Combat Simulator or Can I Idle to be sure that you won't die.
To answer these questions, we will consider the following builds:
* magic,
* Sunset Rapier melee,
* Ancient Magick,
* Ancient Magick in Glacia God Helmet.

These builds were chosen to show the changes that the various drops bring into farming the Pegasus. The ranged builds were not considered because the is Melee and has the highest evasion against Ranged in addition to the Combat Triangle.

In the considered situations, no prayers, potions, or other buffs are enabled unless specified. <br>
The skill levels are given so that you can replicate the simulations in the Combat Simulator. <br>
The Auto Eat - Tier III is used. <br>
The Whale (Perfect) was used as a food of choice because it was considered a middle ground between starting out and being fully leveled out in Firemaking, Fishing, Farming, and Cooking.

The ring slot is always occupied with Magical Ring.

is used with Combination Runes. All skills are at level 75.

The simulation results are:
* 1307 Ancient Rune spent,
* 163 Whale (Perfect) per hour,
* 67.7 Pegasi per hour.

<math>T_c = 163 * 18.875 = 3077</math>

<math>T_m = (N * 7 * (1 + 2/16 + 2/16) / 16 + N / 16) * 1.3 = N / 16 * (8.75 + 1) * 1.3 = N * 12.675 / 16</math>

<math>T_r = N * 9.75 * 2 / 16 = N * 9.75 / 8</math>

<math>N = 1307</math>

<math>T_m = 1307 * 12.675 / 16 = 1035</math>

<math>T_r = 1307 * 9.75 / 8 = 1593</math>

The adjusted time <math>A_{start} = T_{all} / D_h = (3600 + 3077 + 1035 + 1593) / 67.7 = 137.5</math>

In other words, the time that is required to get all resources for killing one Pegasus and to actually kill it is 400 seconds.

The overall time to get all resources and kill all Pegasi is <math>137.5 * 3333 / 3600 = 127 \text{ hours}.</math>

The calculations in this whole guide don't take the Pegasus respawn time of 4 seconds into the account. It doesn't affect the ratio between the methods. If you want to add them, go ahead.
title=Details|color=default}}

The overall time to get all resources and kill all Pegasi is 127 hours. However, pay attention that without the Slayer gear, it will be 371 hours.

All skills are at level 75 except Magic. With the following setup, you should have exactly 20k accuracy on , they cannot miss now.

The simulation results with the Miolite Shield are:
* 4905 Ancient Rune spent,
* 107.9 Whale (Perfect) per hour,
* 196.2 Pegasi per hour.

<math>T_c = 107.9 * 18.875 = 2037</math>

<math>T_m = (N * 4 + N) / 16 * 1.3 = N * 5 / 16 * 1.3 = N * 6.5 / 16</math>

<math>T_r = N * 5 * 2 / 16 = N * 5 / 8</math>

<math>N = 4905</math>

<math>T_m = 4905 * 6.5 / 16 = 1993</math>

<math>T_r = 4905 * 5 / 8 = 3066</math>

The adjusted time <math>A_{volcano} = T_{all} / D_h = (3600 + 2037 + 1993 + 3066) / 196.2 = 54.52</math>

The overall time is <math>54.52 * 3333 / 3600 = 50.48 \text{ hours}.</math>

If you swap from Miolite Shield to Book of Eli, it will only increase the clear time because your melee defence would plummet, resulting in many more Whales eaten.
title=Details|color=default}}

The overall grind time with this build is 51 hours. The slayer gear doesn't add to the clear speed in this case.

Overall, you want to put as much DR and Melee defence as possible when maintaining the 20k accuracy.

For instance, if you have Magic with the build above, you can swap Enchanted Cape with Fire Cape and reduce the food consumption even further.

The rune mining and crafting take the bulk of the time, so you might want to use all preservation and doubling bonuses that you have.

The levels are the same as in the Volcanic build. Due to Ancient Magic not benefiting from gear, the build was aimed to cram as much DR and melee evasion as possible. If you have Magic, you should be able to swap for Elite Amulet of Defence while still having the required 20k accuracy.

It is heavily suggested to use the Sandstorm Ring because it boosts your clear time by 20%. Other rings don't come even relatively close.
are used.

If you have Fury of the Elemental Zodiacs (3% DR) use it instead of the Elite Amulet of Defence (2% DR). If you don't have any of them, use Gold Sapphire Necklace, but you really want at least Elite Amulet of Defence to idle this dungeon.
The simulation results are:
* 4905 Ancient Rune spent,
* 47.7 Whale (Perfect) per hour,
* 196.2 Pegasi per hour.

Weapon choice
As the number of runes is the same, <math>T_m = 1993.</math> <math>T_r = 3066.</math>

The simulation was done with the given default build on Hardcore. All combat levels are equal to 85 aside from Hitpoints. No prayers, no potions, no any other buffs.
<math>T_c = 47.7 * 18.875 = 900.3</math>

The adjusted time <math>A_{glacia} = T_{all} / D_h = (3600 + 900.3 + 1993 + 3066) / 196.2 = 48.72</math>

The overall time is <math>48.72 * 3333 / 3600 = 45.1 \text{ hours}.</math>
title=Details|color=default}}

The overall grind time with this build is 45 hours. But this build implies that you go through the Air God Dungeon with Sunset Rapier, which is a sizeable loss of DPS that will cost you more than 6 hours of the difference between this build and the Ancient Magick build.

Analysis
Essentially, we want to know which of two sequences is faster:
* Rapier > Claw > Volcano,
* Rapier > Volcano > Claw.

Full-Sunset Volcano vs Full-Claw Volcano
Let's consider the Sunset Rapier and Ancient Magick builds.

The difference between their timings of completing the Ancient Claw is 17 hours.

The Volcano grind of the full (G) Ancient Helmet set is longer with the with Sunset Rapier than it is with the Claw.

The question is then if the difference between the Sunset Rapier and the Ancient Claw in the Volcanic grind is bigger than 17 hours.

We know the length of "Raper > Claw" and "Volcano > Claw", but we need the data on "Rapier > Volcano" and "Claw > Volcano".

We take this data from Volcanic Cave/Guide#Weapon choice.

The goal of clearing the Volcanic Cave is to get the (G) Ancient Helmet set.

As specified on in the Volcanic Cave/Guide, you need 1350 clears to almost certainly get a full set of Ancient armor or 832 clears to have a 75% chance. The median (50% or results) is 564 clears.

As you see from the Difference row, even the 50% chance leaves the option of getting the Claw after the Volcanic Cave in a 12-hour disadvantage.

Therefore, if you farm the Volcanic Cave completely with the Sunset Rapier and then farm the Claw with Ancient Magick, the sum of the Volcanic and Claw farm will be larger than if you were to farm the Claw with the Rapier and then doing the Volcanic Cave.

However, what if we were to use the Ancient Magicks as soon as we unlock it?

Sunset/Ancient Volcano vs Claw/Ancient Volcano
It is possible to clear the Volcano using the Ancient Magicks with the build from Volcanic Cave/Guide#100-Volcanoes Magic. Pay attention that you need 37% DR with to idle it. That amount of DR is reached either through the prayer or through the Damage Reduction Potion II.

If we consider that we clear only 100 Volcanoes as a melee build and the rest as the 100-Volcanoes Magic build, then we compare the two sequences:

* Claw farm with Rapier + 100 Claw Volcanoes,
* 100 Rapier Volcanoes + Claw farm with Ancient Magicks.

In other words, the advantage of farming 100 Volcanic Caves with the Claw when compared to the Sunset Rapier is less than 5 hours.

If we consider the rearranged sum of what we compare

* Claw farm with Rapier + 100 Claw Volcanoes,
* Claw farm with Ancient Magicks + 100 Rapier Volcanoes.

and then subtract the second row from the first one, then we would get

<math>17 - 4.87 = 12.13</math>

In other words the sequence where we farm the Claw after the Volcano is faster than the sequence of farming the claw with Rapier by 12 hours.

You want to get at least the Ancient Claw because it is a good time to farm it after unlocking Ancient Magicks.
Conclusion
Farm the Ancient Claw with the Ancient Magicks build right after you finish .

Ideally, you want to get from the Infernal Stronghold and farm the Dragon Claw to make the Infernal Claw.<br>
If you cannot get the Ancient Magick build for some reason, then use the Rapier melee build with Slayer gear.
Check the to farm it most efficiently. You should be able to idle everything aside from .
