The name of the game is to obtain DR from any of the possible sources. Damage and evasion are secondary to DR. Without access to {{Skill|Smithing}}, {{Skill|Crafting}} or {{Skill|Runecrafting}} our sources of DR are quite limited, but they exist. Note that all of the items in this section requires {{ZoneIcon|Impending Darkness Event}} to be completed. Because of the tight DR windows, this section of the guide assumes {{Skill|Hitpoints|120}}, {{PetIcon|Finn, the Cat}}, {{PetIcon|Leonardo}} and {{PetIcon|Erran}}. It may be possible to supplement lower {{Skill|Hitpoints}} levels with {{PrayerIcon|Holy Aegis}}, {{PrayerIcon|Stone Skin}}, {{ItemIcon|Guardian Amulet}} or a {{ItemIcon|Wasteful Ring}}. Each of these options incurs a relatively large efficiency penalty or opportunity cost so they should used be a last resort. With lower {{Skill|Hitpoints}} it will be up to the user to consult the Combat Simulator and proceed with caution.

The item we seek in this section are {{ItemIcon|Frost Walker Boots}}, {{ItemIcon|Perfect Sight Legs}} (if not already obtained) and {{ItemIcon|Slayer Gear Upgrade Kit (Legendary)}}, all of which add a hefty amount of DR to our loadout. {{ItemIcon|Bundled Protection Body}} can also be used for dungeons and will also now be obtained in this section. The monsters we focus on are {{MonsterIcon|Large Ice Troll}}, {{MonsterIcon|Conda}}, {{MonsterIcon|Alraune}} and {{MonsterIcon|Spectral Ice Wolf}}.

The first item is the {{ItemIcon|Frost Walker Boots}} from {{MonsterIcon|Large Ice Troll}} in {{ZoneIcon|Forsaken Tundra}}, which requires {{Skill|Slayer|105}}. These monsters are relatively weak and won't cause too much trouble, but the boots they give offer a whopping 12% DR. These count as legendary slayer tasks and so it is worth rerolling legendary tasks to help make a dent in the 20 tasks needed to purchase {{ItemIcon|Slayer Gear Upgrade Kit (Legendary)}}.
The first item is the {{ItemIcon|Frost Walker Boots}} from {{MonsterIcon|Large Ice Troll}} in {{ZoneIcon|Forsaken Tundra}}, which requires {{Skill|Slayer|105}}. The boots offer a whopping 12% DR, but do require {{Skill|Magic|110}} to equip. Later on, we'll upgrade these boots into {{ItemIcon|Frostspark Boots}} which will be best-in-slot until end-game. We'll want a Frostspark set for each style, so we need 15 Frost Walker Boots total.

These monsters are relatively weak and won't cause too much trouble. They also count as legendary slayer tasks. Since we'll need 15 {{ItemIcon|Frost Walker Boots}}, and {{Skill|Magic|110}}, it is advised to knock out all 20 Legendary tasks on {{MonsterIcon|Large Ice Troll}}'s to unlock {{ItemIcon|Slayer Gear Upgrade Kit (Legendary)}}. Try to reroll tasks over ~350 to speed up that grind.

Assuming your magic level is around 100, and depending on reroll luck, you should hit 110 Magic around the same time as completing your 20 Legendary tasks and acquiring enough drops for 15 {{ItemIcon|Frost Walker Boots}}.
