'''{{PAGENAME}}''' is a {{Icon|Combat}} skill. It provides passive combat bonuses at the expense of '''prayer points'''. Prayer is one of three skills (along with {{Skill|Defence}} and {{Skill|Hitpoints}}) that is used when determining a player or monster's [[Combat Level]].

Prayer is a [[Combat]] skill that provides passive bonuses at the expense of prayer points. Prayer points can be gained by burying bones from the [[Bank]]. There is no limit to the amount of prayer points you can have.
== Mechanics ==
=== Using Prayers ===
Up to two prayers can be activated from the Prayer panel on the Combat UI. Active prayers will be highlighted, and can be deactivated by interacting with them again. Active prayers provide a variety of passive benefits in combat. New prayers are unlocked as the Prayer skill levels up. Normal and {{AoD}} Unholy Prayers can only be used while using [[Combat#Normal Damage|Normal Damage]] and consume Prayer Points while {{ItA}} Abyssal Prayers can only be used while using {{ItA}} [[Combat#Abyssal Damage|Abyssal Damage]] and consume {{ItA}} Soul Points.

0.1 Prayer experience is earned per point of damage dealt in combat. An additional 0.2 Prayer experience is earned per point of damage for each prayer point spent per attack. This experience can be further increased by 10% by equipping the [[Gold Emerald Ring]].
Each equipment set tracks active prayers separately, but a given prayer can be used in any number of equipment sets. Upon [[Combat#Death|death]], all prayers are deactivated for the current equipment set and must be manually reapplied.

== Bones ==
=== {{Icon|Prayer|notext=true}} Prayer Points ===
Bones can be acquired by killing [[Monsters]] that are not in [[Dungeons]].
Each active Standard Prayer and {{AoD}} Unholy Prayer costs prayer points (PP) to maintain. This cost is usually incurred when the player or enemy attacks; the specific trigger is detailed in each prayer's description. If the player doesn't have enough PP to trigger an active prayer, it will be deactivated.

Prayer points can be gained by burying bones, enchanted urns, and similar items from the [[Bank]]. Current PP is shown in the Stats panel in the Combat UI and next to the Prayer skill in the sidebar. The maximum PP the player can have is 4,294,967,295 (~4.3b). If the amount of PP exceeds ~4.3b, ~4.3b prayer points will be deleted until the remaining prayer points is below ~4.3b.

Soul Points (SP) are identical to Prayer Points however they are used to maintain Abyssal Prayers. Soul Points can be gained by releasing Souls from the [[Bank]]. The current SP is shown in the Stats panel in the Combat UI. The current SP can be shown in the sidebar if the 'Show Soul Points in the sidebar instead of Prayer Points' setting is enabled. Soul Points are also limited to ~4.3b and will also be deleted if the amount of SP exceeds this number.

== Prayers ==
== Prayers ==
All prayers that provide percentage bonuses to Accuracy, Evasion, or Max Hit apply multiplicatively. For example, {{PrayerIcon|Mystic Might}}'s +15% Magic Evasion bonus will multiply the player's [[Combat#Magic Evasion Rating|Magic Evasion Rating]] by 1.15 rather than directly providing a 15% chance to evade any Magic attack. Likewise, the +15% Magic Accuracy bonus it provides will multiply the player's [[Combat#Accuracy Rating|Magic Accuracy Rating]] by 1.15 rather than simply adding 15% to their hit chance. Players can view the {{Icon|Combat}} page for more detail on how hit chance is calculated.
The three Protection prayers are worded differently and behave differently from prayers that affect Evasion Rating. For example, {{PrayerIcon|Protect from Magic}} provides a flat 80% chance for the player to dodge any Magic attack, completely ignoring the player's Evasion Rating. (Using these prayers when a monster's chance to hit is 20% or lower is not advised, as that ''increases'' the chance of being hit.) Likewise, prayers that provide [[Damage Reduction]] award a flat percentage bonus, and do not multiply any DR that is already in effect.
{{PrayerTable}}
==Unholy Prayers==
{{Main|Reference=Unholy Prayers}}
[[Unholy Prayers]] are a subset of {{Icon|Prayer}} options, introduced in the {{AoD}} [[Atlas of Discovery Expansion]]. In order to utilize Unholy Prayers, a player must be wearing at least two items that Allow Unholy Prayer Usage.
Normal Prayers and Unholy Prayers can not be used together.
==Abyssal Prayers==
{{Main|Reference=Abyssal Prayers}}
[[Abyssal Prayers]] are a subset of {{Icon|Prayer}} options, introduced in the {{ItA}} [[Into the Abyss Expansion]]. Abyssal prayers can only be used in conjunction with Abyssal Damage weaponry. Unlike regular prayers, abyssal prayers use [[Soul Points]] instead of [[Prayer Points]]
Abyssal prayers cannot be used together with normal prayers, nor unholy prayers.
== Gaining Prayer Points ==
The most common way to gain prayer points (PP) is to use the "Bury Item" action on certain items from the [[Bank]]. Most non-[[Dungeons|Dungeon]] monsters drop some kind of {{ItemIcon|Bones}} or similar items when killed. Burying these items is one of the only sources of PP in the early game, but they only provide a small amount per item, and are large quantities are required for certain {{Skill|Township}} tasks.
{{ItemIcon|Large Urn (Enchanted)|Enchanted Urns}} are by far the most efficient source of PP, despite requiring moderate investments in {{Skill|Woodcutting}}, {{Skill|Crafting}}, and {{Skill|Magic}}. It may be useful to delay leveling Prayer until the player can create and bury these urns. {{ItemIcon|Raw Skeleton Fish}} are a simpler, though less efficient, alternative for players without the prerequisite skills.
The {{TotH}}{{ItemIcon|Amulet of Prayers}} and {{TotH}}{{ItemIcon|Holy Bulwark Potion}} provide PP upon taking damage from a monster.
=== Prayer Point (PP) Sources ===
The table below lists all items that can be buried to gain prayer points.
If a monster drops one of these items as loot while wearing the {{ItemIcon|Bone Necklace}}, they will automatically be buried for twice the normal amount of PP. These items all qualify as "Bones" while wearing the {{ItemIcon|Necromancers Crown}}.

==Skill Boosts==
{{Main|Reference={{PAGENAME}}/Boosts|Name={{PAGENAME}} Boosts}}
Skill boosts are special enhancements that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the player's skills. These boosts can come from a variety of sources such as equipment, potions, pets, and masteries. Global boosts are boosts which apply across all skills. A boost can be assumed to be for the listed skill only, unless specifically stated it is a global boost. Boosts help the player to progress faster and achieve higher levels of mastery in each skill. The following are some common types of skill boosts and what they do:
*'''Increased Skill XP:''' Increases the amount of experience points (XP) gained.
*'''Decreased Skill Interval:''' Reduces the time it takes to complete skilling actions, allowing the player to perform more actions in a given period.
*'''Preservation Chance:''' Increases the likelihood that resources or items used during skill actions are not consumed.
*'''Increased Chance to Double Items:''' Gives a higher chance of receiving double the items or resources when performing skill-related actions.
*'''Increased Mastery XP:''' Enhances the rate at which mastery XP is gained for a skill.

Prayer Points

Each active Standard Prayer and AoD.png Unholy Prayer costs prayer points (PP) to maintain. This cost is usually incurred when the player or enemy attacks; the specific trigger is detailed in each prayer's description. If the player doesn't have enough PP to trigger an active prayer, it will be deactivated.

Prayer points can be gained by burying bones, enchanted urns, and similar items from the Bank. Current PP is shown in the Stats panel in the Combat UI and next to the Prayer skill in the sidebar. The maximum PP the player can have is 4,294,967,295 (~4.3b). If the amount of PP exceeds ~4.3b, ~4.3b prayer points will be deleted until the remaining prayer points is below ~4.3b.

attempts is not currently considered an "enemy attack", allowing

and all prayers that provide Damage Reduction to be used indefinitely at no cost while Thieving.

Soul Points

Soul Points (SP) are identical to Prayer Points however they are used to maintain Abyssal Prayers. Soul Points can be gained by releasing Souls from the Bank.

Earning Prayer XP

Prayer experience is earned when dealing damage to an enemy while at least one prayer is active. Certain prayers provide no XP, usually because they don't trigger on a player attack; each prayer's description explains whether or not it rewards XP.

The amount of Prayer experience earned is [math]\displaystyle{ \frac{1}{30} }[/math] or [math]\displaystyle{ 3.33 \% }[/math] per point of damage dealt by a player attack, multiplied by the total base PP cost of all active prayers. Base PP cost refers to the cost of a prayer before any cost modifiers are applied, meaning that increasing or decreasing prayer costs will not affect how much XP is earned. Using prayers with the highest base costs will result in the most Prayer XP gained per attack.

Prayer can be used to great effect with any combat style. With a healthy supply of PP, Prayer is one of the first Combat skills to reach max level for many players.

Earning
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Abyssal Prayer XP

Abyssal Prayer XP is earned the same way as regular prayer xp however Abyssal Prayers must be used to gain Abyssal XP. Abyssal Prayers can only be active while Abyssal Damage is being used. The amount of Abyssal XP earned is the same as regular prayers.

Prayers

All prayers that provide percentage bonuses to Accuracy, Evasion, or Max Hit apply multiplicatively. For example,

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Mystic Might

's +15% Magic Evasion bonus will multiply the player's Magic Evasion Rating by 1.15 rather than directly providing a 15% chance to evade any Magic attack. Likewise, the +15% Magic Accuracy bonus it provides will multiply the player's Magic Accuracy Rating by 1.15 rather than simply adding 15% to their hit chance. Players can view the

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Combat

page for more detail on how hit chance is calculated. The three Protection prayers are worded differently and behave differently from prayers that affect Evasion Rating. For example,

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Protect from Magic

provides a flat 80% chance for the player to dodge any Magic attack, completely ignoring the player's Evasion Rating. (Using these prayers when a monster's chance to hit is 20% or lower is not advised, as that increases the chance of being hit.) Likewise, prayers that provide Damage Reduction award a flat percentage bonus, and do not multiply any DR that is already in effect.

Unholy Prayers

Unholy Prayers are a subset of

options, introduced in the AoD.png Atlas of Discovery Expansion. In order to utilize Unholy Prayers, a player must be wearing at least two items that Allow Unholy Prayer Usage.

Normal Prayers and Unholy Prayers can not be used together.

Abyssal Prayers

Abyssal Prayers are a subset of

options, introduced in the

Into the Abyss Expansion. Abyssal prayers can only be used in conjunction with Abyssal Damage weaponry. Unlike regular prayers, abyssal prayers use Soul Points instead of Prayer Points

Abyssal prayers cannot be used together with normal prayers, nor unholy prayers.

Gaining Prayer Points

The most common way to gain prayer points (PP) is to use the "Bury Item" action on certain items from the Bank. Most non-Dungeon monsters drop some kind of Bones or similar items when killed. Burying these items is one of the only sources of PP in the early game, but they only provide a small amount per item, and are large quantities are required for certain

tasks. Enchanted Urns are by far the most efficient source of PP, despite requiring moderate investments in

,

Crafting

, and

Magic

. It may be useful to delay leveling Prayer until the player can create and bury these urns. Raw Skeleton Fish are a simpler, though less efficient, alternative for players without the prerequisite skills.

The TotH.svg Amulet of Prayers and TotH.svg Holy Bulwark Potion provide PP upon taking damage from a monster.

Prayer Point (PP) Sources

The table below lists all items that can be buried to gain prayer points.

If a monster drops one of these items as loot while wearing the Bone Necklace, they will automatically be buried for twice the normal amount of PP. These items all qualify as "Bones" while wearing the Necromancers Crown.

Skill Level Unlocks

Skill Boosts

Skill boosts are special enhancements that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the player's skills. These boosts can come from a variety of sources such as equipment, potions, pets, and masteries. Global boosts are boosts which apply across all skills. A boost can be assumed to be for the listed skill only, unless specifically stated it is a global boost. Boosts help the player to progress faster and achieve higher levels of mastery in each skill. The following are some common types of skill boosts and what they do:

  • Increased Skill XP: Increases the amount of experience points (XP) gained.
  • Decreased Skill Interval: Reduces the time it takes to complete skilling actions, allowing the player to perform more actions in a given period.
  • Preservation Chance: Increases the likelihood that resources or items used during skill actions are not consumed.
  • Increased Chance to Double Items: Gives a higher chance of receiving double the items or resources when performing skill-related actions.
  • Increased Mastery XP: Enhances the rate at which mastery XP is gained for a skill.

For more information on general skill boosts that apply to all skills, refer to the Skill Boosts page.
