I ran [[Summoner's Defender]] until [[Underwater City]], your stats might require a shield though. [[Dragonfire Shield]] is your best defensive option, [[Book of Occults]] for offense but probably not worth farming out (it might outperform defender? Needs simming). Otherwise use a defender(knight's, crystal, pure crystal) for melee, [[Scaled Shield]] is best for Ranged offensive option, [[Blessed Shield]] or [[Magicburn Shield]] for Magic offense.

For weapons use your best 1h with a shield option above. The accuracy bonus from 2 handers is usually very good for downing barriers if you don't have any of the shield options above. The familiar weapons are usually bad.
