Potions are consumable items that provide different effects for the player, depending on which potion is used. Potions come with changes, and one potion charge is per action. Even if the potion effect does not apply. Potions can be created with herblore skill using a herbs and one or more secondary ingredients. For every potion, there exists 4 different tiers. Higher tiers offer benefits such as more potion charges or a potion effect. A player can upgrade a potion to the next tier, provided they have unlocked the mastery level to do so. Higher tier potions are automatically created when the mastery level is unlocked.

There are two categories of potions in Melvor Idle, combat potions and skill potions. Combat potions boost the effectiveness of combat and can only be used during combat.

Using Potions

Potions can be activated per skill. When in the desired Skill tab you can select the Potion icon located at the top right, right of the "Force Save" button. This will pop up a new window where you can select which Potion to use. There is also a option you can enable the "Auto re-use potion for this Skill" which will automatically use a new potion once it runs out.

Up and Downgrading Potions

You can Upgrade potions to the next tier (up to IV), this requires 3 of the lower tier potions for 1 of the higher tier. This is done by pressing the yellow/orange Upgrade Item button. This does require the required

Level in the potion to be able to upgrade.

Downgrading isn't possible in the base game. For cases where you want lower tier potions (such as the Bird Nest Potion I task you can use Herblore Potion to get a chance of extra potions of a random tier of the same kind of potion you're crafting.
Tier 1 potions can also be found in Potion Box I, Potion Box II and Potion Box III.
Alternatively there is a Mod called "Potion Downgrade" which adds this functionality, some might consider this cheating, so use at own risk.

Skill Potions

When using potions that have a chance to activate, a charge is consumed whenever a relevant action is performed, whether or not the potion's effect actually activates for that action.

For example, if using a Bird Nest Potion I, a charge will be consumed every time a log is cut regardless of whether a Bird Nest is received.
