==General== | |||
Q: Why haven't I gotten that rare drop yet?
:A: The drop rates are often given in the wiki, but the drop-rate is very different to the chance of getting that reward through farming. For example, a drop-rate of 1 in 33,333 (0.03%) would take: 23,105 actions for a 50% chance; 76,752 actions for a 90% chance; and a staggering 153,504 actions for a 99% chance of getting this reward. You could also receive it on the first attempt. See drop rates for more information on this.
Q: How does upgrading (or downgrading) items work?
:A: Some items can be upgraded to improve their stats or create new equipment. For example, most armour can be upgraded with Silver Bar and Gold Bar to improve stats. Some items can be downgraded too. For example, perfectly food can be downgraded to the standard type which might help with stacking. Items that can be upgraded/downgraded will have an overlay icon visible in the bank. Upgrading normally has a costs, and you can see what the requirements are by viewing the item in your bank and choosing Upgrade. For more information, visit the Upgrading Items page.
Q: Can I train combat skills without fighting enemies?
:A: For some skills, yes. You can earn Magic XP with Alt Magic, and Strength XP by wearing Barbarian Gloves and catching fish in the Barbarian Fishing area. You can also obtain boosts for combat skills such as Astrology, Agility and AoD Cartography.
=== Combat === | |||
Q: Are there any beginners guide for combat?
:A: Yes, check out the beginner's guide for an overview of the combat skills. More detailed information about Combat mechanics can be found on the Combat page.
Q: How do I level up in combat?
:A: There are many Guides on the wiki to help! Check out the Combat Guide, and the guides for melee, ranged and magic.
Q: How do I obtain the Amulet of Looting?
:A: You will need to complete the Spider Forest dungeon to get a chance of finding this rare item. See the Spider Forest/Guide for tips on how to beat this dungeon.
Q: How is XP for Combat skills calculated?
:A: XP is gained for Combat based on damage you do (and not the damage you receive). You will receive XP for each of the combat skills that you are using. For example, if you are using melee slash, then it will increase Strength, but not Attack. The Slayer XP will be awarded when you do Slayer tasks or kill Slayer monsters. Skills like Prayer have XP that varies depending on the prayer used. See Combat for more details.
Q: How much Damage Reduction (DR) do I have?
:A: The Stats Card that can be found in the combat section of the game (or see the Combat on Mobile) and show your actual DR for the monster you are fighting. Note that the "View Equipment Stats" page will not include any modifiers from Pets or Agility, for example, and so may not show your actual DR.
Q: My Damage Reduction (DR) is different than what I expected?
:A: Damage Reduction is calculated by adding up all of your boosts, but can be lowered by buffs from things such as skills, Pets. For exammple, some Agility obstacles can lower your DR, and certain enemies can also reduce DR. The Combat Triangle might also be negatively impacting your DR.
Q: How do I idle a monster without dying?
:A: The main factors that let you safely idle a monster are your Hitpoints and Damage Reduction (DR). However, it is still possible for you to run out of food, or for your consumables (such as ammo, or boosts) to run out leading to death. See the how to idle monsters of combat for more information.
Q: How can I avoid taking so much damage from dragonbreath attacks?
:A: You can reduce dragonbreath damage with your Damage Reduction, using the Dragonfire Shield, and the Cyclops/Dragon summoning synergy. However, your best bet is to just stock up on Food and kill the dragons more efficiently. You will generally be best off using Magic against dragons. Try to increase your damage and item doubling instead of focusing on defence.
Q: Can I fight monsters offline?
:A: Yes. It was introduced early on and can be enabled from the Settings menu.
Q: Does the 100% item doubling from Big ol Ron stack with other sources of item doubling?
:A: No. Item doubling is limited to a 100% chance.
=== Dungeons === | |||
Q: Are the guides for dungeons?
:A: Yes. The wiki has guides for many of the dungeons, see Dungeon Guides for more information.
Q: Does item doubling such as Chapeau Noir and Aorpheat's Signet Ring work on dungeon chests? Do these items stack?
:A: Yes and Yes. The double loot drop chance stacks additively for each boost you obtain. For example, you have a chance to obtain double chests from a dungeon completion with Chapeau Noir or Aorpheat's Signet Ring equipped, but equipping both with give you a 15% chance of doubling chests. Also, you only need to have the items equipped at the time you kill the final dungeon boss to increase the chance of doubling the chest.
Q: Why am I safe to idle the boss Malcs, the Guardian of Melvor in the Volcanic Cave dungeon even though it has a higher max hit than my Auto Eat threshold?
:A: This boss does not use its normal attack, so its max hit is only 520 damage and not its listed max hit of 982.
Q: I've cleared this dungeon many times but have not unlocked the Ancient/Archaic Magicks spell for it.
:A: With item doubling, you can also double chest drops which increases your odds of getting these rare items. However, drop-rates do not guarantee you will get the reward quickly. You can find your dungeon clear count in Completion Log > Monsters > Dungeon Bosses under the heading "Times Slain". See here to learn more about how drop rates work.
===Death=== | |||
Q: What happens when you die?
:A: When you die a random item from your currently selected Equipment Set will be lost forever. You can lose full stacks of ammo, consumables and summoning tablets, but not food or potions. If your character is in Hardcore mode, on death it is permanently deleted instead. If you have the prayer equiped then you will not lose any items on death.
Q: I had Auto Eat on, how did I die?
:A: You died because you either ran out of food or the max hit of the enemy exceeded the threshold for . For example if you have Auto Eat - Tier I, it has 20% health threshold and you have 100 HP. As the threshold for to trigger would be <=20 HP, an enemy with a max hit >21 could kill you without ever triggering .
:Some more difficult enemies have special attacks that apply status effects like stun that can let them deal more damage to you than their max hit. Please see the Combat Effects page for more information!
===Melee (Attack, Strength, Defence)===
Q: How do I level these and what do they do?
:A: Check out the beginner's guide for an overview of the combat skills. More detailed information about Combat mechanics can be found on the Combat page. Basically, Attack level increases your accuracy and chance to hit, Strength increases your Max Hit, and Defence increases your melee evasion rating.
Q: Does Defence also increase your Ranged and Magic Evasion?
:A: Yes, increasing Defence level will also improve your Ranged and Magic evasion.
===Hitpoints=== | |||
Q: Is it possible to get above 990 Hitpoints?
:A: Yes. Finn provides +10 maximum HP, and Dragonfire Shield provides +30 maximum HP. Also, some obstacles in Agility can increase your maximum HP. If you have purchased the Throne of the Herald Expansion, you can level up Hitpoints to 120, to a max base hp of 1,200.
Q: Why are my/enemy hitpoints and damage much higher than I expected?
:A: If you are playing on Adventure mode, all hitpoints, damage, and Food healing are multiplied by 10. This is purely a cosmetic change.
===Ranged=== | |||
Q: Is Ranged worth leveling?
:A: Yes. Ranged has better clear times than melee for many different combat scenarios, especially against magic enemies. However, you will need to craft or find ammo. You will need ranged to progress through the god dungeons (guides are available here).
Q: What is the best way to level up Ranged?
:A: Use longbows. Use Accurate attack style when you're below Ranged and Rapid later. Check out the Combat Guide for equipment and milestones.
===Magic=== | |||
Q: Is Magic worth leveling?
:A: Yes, Magic is extremely effective at killing melee monsters, and most of the monsters in the game are melee. Most monsters have low evasion, so you can kill them faster than with other styles. Also, Ancient Magicks are very useful in certain situations. You will need ranged to progress through the god dungeons https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Guides#Dungeon_Guides
:In addition, there are a variety of useful non-Combat spells that can be used via Alternative Magic, including to generate Prayer points, and the Superheat series of spells that generates multiple bars per set of ores used and at the highest tier allow you to smelt bars without needing any Coal Ore.
Q: How do I level up Magic?
:A: There is a Magic/Training guide that will show you how to do this. You can also use Alternative Magic to level without combat.
Q: How do I make Magic weapons and armor?
:A: In addition to runes, the Runecrafting skill allows you to craft Magic weapons and armour, similar to how the Smithing skill works for melee combat.
Q: Are staves worth making?
:A: Yes. When equipped, staves reduce the number of Air Rune, Water Rune, Earth Rune, or Fire Rune runes needed for spells, depending on the staff type.
Q: What are curses and auroras? Should I use them?
:A: Curses debuff enemies, while auroras buff the player. Some of these are very powerful and are important in late game combat. In the early game, it may or may not be worth it depending on your Runecrafting level. You cannot use curses with Ancient Magicks. Curses and auroras do not directly give magic XP, but they can increase your damage output and therefore your XP gain.
===Prayer=== | |||
Q: Does burying bones give Prayer XP?
:A: No, they give you prayer points, used to activate prayers during Combat. Most prayers will give you Prayer XP while active, unless specified.
Q: What is the number next to Prayer in the sidebar?
:A: That is your Prayer Points. Prayer Points are used to cast Prayers in Combat. You can train your Prayer skill only by using prayers in the combat.
Q: How do I train Prayer efficiently?
:A: See the Prayer/Guide for more information.
===Slayer=== | |||
Q: How do I get a new Slayer Task?
:A: Go to combat, and tap the Slayer icon below your equipped food. If you don't see it, unhide it by tapping the "Show/hide player container" button above your HP bar. Then, tap new task and select the difficulty.
Q: How do I get Slayer XP?
:A: Completing Slayer Tasks will give you Slayer XP equal to 10% of that monster's HP. Alternatively, defeating any monster in Slayer Areas will give you XP equal to 5% of that monster's Hitpoints. These can be combined, so if the player's Slayer Task is to kill a monster in a Slayer Area, they'll receive XP equal to 15% of that monster's HP.
Q: How do I get Slayer Coins? What is the number next to Slayer in the sidebar?
:A: Slayer Coins are displayed in the sidebar next to the Slayer skill and in the Shop next to total GP. Slayer Coins can only be earned by completing Slayer Tasks. Monsters killed for Slayer Tasks earn Slayer Coins and Slayer experience points equal to 10% of the slain monster's Hitpoints.
Q: What should I first spend Slayer Coins on?
:A: Generally, you will want to unlock the Auto Slayer upgrade first to earn more coins easier. After that you may want to buy items that allow you to fight in new slayer areas, start buying slayer armour and the Skull Cape.
Q: What is a Slayer Area Effect and Flat Slayer Area Effect Negation?
:A: Slayer Areas each have a persistent effect, which will debuff the player or buff the enemies found there as long as you are fighting in that area. The first few areas have minor effects, but as you progress they become much more impactful.
:To overcome the effect, you need Slayer Area Effect Negation. This stat comes from many sources, including slayer armour. The negation % you have is a flat reduction. For example, say you are fighting in the Holy Isles which has the slayer area effect "+20% prayer point cost for prayers". If you are wearing basic slayer helmet and plate body which each give "5% slayer area negation", then the slayer area debuff will be 20% - 5% - 5% = +10% cost for prayers.
==Non-Combat Skills==
===How do I level a skill?===
Please see the Skill Training Guides.
===Woodcutting=== | |||
Q: How did I get a Bird Nest?
:A: Bird Nest have a 0.5% chance to drop every time a tree is cut. The chance and quantity of nest drops can be increased by various means, listed on the Bird Nest page.
Q: What's the fastest way to 1,000,000 Bird Nests for the township task?
:A: Get all of the interval reduction, bird nest drop rate, and bird nest quantity boosts you can from Skill Boosts. You are trying to get your interval rate to the 0.25s minimum, while earning multiple birds nests per action. This can reduce the grind to about two days.
Q: Why do Redwood Logs sell for so little GP? Shouldn't they sell for more than Magic Logs?
:A: Cutting the compared to the trades GP for XP. Redwood Tree gives more XP, and Magic Tree gives more GP.
===Fishing=== | |||
Q: How do I get the Ancient Ring of Mastery and the Ancient Ring of Skills?
:A: These items drop at an incredibly low droprate from any fishing action when you have >1% chance for a special item to drop. You will want to catch fish with a short catch time and high special chance. Raw Seahorse is currently the best special item chance for least catch time, although Raw Skeleton Fish are almost as quick and are much more useful as they can be buried for Prayer Points.
:You should also boost your special chance and reduce your fishing interval. Details here: https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Fishing#Special
Q: How do I get a lot of Ancient Ring of Mastery and the Ancient Ring of Skills for a township task?
:A: When you get a special item, you receive the same amount as you would fish. So if you are getting 4 or 8 fish at a time, you will receive 4 or 8 rings each time they drop.
Q: Why do I always seem to get the wrong Ancient ring type?
:A: You have an equal chance to get the ancient ring of skilling or mastery. See Drop rates for more info on how this mechanic works.
Q: How do I unlock the Secret Area and Barbarian Fishing areas?
:A: To unlock the Secret area you need to randomly find the Message in a Bottle while fishing and read it once. To enter the Barbarian fishing area you must randomly find the Barbarian Gloves while fishing and wear them.
Q: Do I need to keep the Message in a Bottle?
:A: Once the Message in a Bottle has been read, the item no longer has any use and can be sold. Any further bottles found will also have no effect.
Q: Does Junk do anything?
:A: You can safely sell it, but Rope can be upgraded into Bowstring, and other fishing junk can be turned into gems with the use of .
Q: How did I get a Treasure Chest?
:A: When you roll a Special Item, there is a 3.72% chance to get a Treasure Chest.
Q: Should I open the Treasure Chest?
:A: Yes. Although it might seem like you get a log of junk, the Treasure Chest contents are on average four times more valuable than selling the unopened chests.
===Firemaking=== | |||
Q: Is Firemaking worth doing?
:A: Yes. Increasing the Firemaking skill level allows the player to purchase higher tier cooking fires from the Shop. Also, the Firemaking Skillcape (which is purchasable from the Shop upon reaching Firemaking) provides a 5% global experience bonus. Furthermore, getting 99 Mastery on each log will give further global Mastery experience.
:You will also gain useful items, like Ash, Charcoal, Coal Ore and Diamond.
===Cooking=== | |||
Q: Why can't I cook this chicken/bread/soup?
:A: You must purchase the furnace and pot upgrades from the Shop
Q: What is the difference between Passive and Active Cooking?
:A: Passive Cooking is slower, cannot Perfect cook, and grants no XP or Mastery. However, it can be done at the same time as Actively Cooking other items.
Q: Can I passively cook while training other skills?
:A: No, only while you are actively cooking
Q: I'm cooking an item but it's not showing up in my Bank.
:A: Cooking Upgrade 1 which can be purchased from the Shop lets you automatically equip produced food. Check the toggle button at the top of the Cooking page.
Q: Cooking is so slow! How do I earn food quicker?
:A: Cooking has many buffs to increase the amount of food you can produce. Try to decrease your interval, while increasing your preservation, doubling and perfect chance. Using passive cooking will create even more food. Pre-Throne of the Herald Expansion, the most efficient cooking method for mid-endgame accounts is cooking chicken soup active, and whales and carrot cake passive, including gathering time.
:Fishing will always be faster than cooking, so you will have a lot of extra raw fish when levelling both.
Q: I've gotten lots of Perfect Cooks, but I still can't trade for the item in Township.
:A: Only cooking regular items counts toward the Township unlock. If you uncheck "Enable Perfect Cooks" option in the game's Settings then you will no longer receive perfect cooks. You can also downgrade perfect cooked fish into their regular counterparts.
Q: I can't craft Burnt Cave Fish.
:A: The only way to obtain Burnt Cave Fish is to kill the Tentacle enemy located in the Sandy Shores area of the regular Combat tab.
===Mining=== | |||
Q: Why are my Mining Gloves/Gem Gloves not working?
:A: Gloves only work on Ores, not Essences nor Gem Veins. As of v1.1.1 you will still consume glove charges if mining essence or Gem Veins.
Q: Why does this rock take so long to respawn?
:A: Higher level rocks take more time to respawn. You can reduce the time spent waiting for respawn by increasing the chance you deal no damage to a mining node. You can find details on the Mining page.
Q: Do Gem Gloves make a profit?
:A: Yes. If all the charges from the Gem Gloves are used and the gems obtained are sold, the expected profit is around 262000.
Q: What are gems for? Should I sell them?
:A: Gems are used for Crafting jewelry, brewing some Herblore, Fletching Gem Tipped Bolts, and making Devil in Summoning. Gem Gloves give players a reliable way to collect more gems, so it's acceptable to sell them early on for GP.
Q: Why is the health on my Gem Veins/Meteorite not increasing?
:A: Only mining Throne of the Herald Expansion rocks has a chance to add health to the Gem vein. They have no natural regeneration. For Meteorite Ore, performing actions in Astrology has a chance of adding Meteorite health. You can earn meteorite health even before you have the mining level required to mine it.
===Smithing=== | |||
Q: Do I have to level Smithing to do Combat?
:A: It is possible to find armor as loot when killing monsters, so leveling Smithing is not technically required. You can find a guide to progress without smithing on the HCCO/Guide page.
Q: Why can't I equip this weapon or armor?
:A: Make sure you have the required combat levels to wear it. If the gear required over 99 smithing to make, it comes from the Throne of the Herald Expansion and requires Impending Darkness Event to be completed before it may be equipped.
Q: How do I get enough Coal Ore?
:A: You can gather coal in many ways besides mining it directly. Mining anything with the Mining Skillcape equipped will give an extra coal for each action. You can gain coal passively through the township trader. A quick way to earn a lot of coal is to use Cooking with the Mole/Pig Summoning Synergy, faster cooks mean more Coal
Q: When should I make bars with Smithing instead of using the Alt Magic spell Superheat?
:A: Superheat is another viable way to make bars that may or may not be more beneficial for you. Superheat gives you Magic XP, does not use coal and can make multiple bars at higher levels. However, you don't benefit from item preservation or doubling, you don't gain Mastery Experience, and it is slightly more difficult to obtain buffs and interval reduction effects compared to smithing.
===Thieving=== | |||
Q: Why am I not getting any progress while offline?
:A: In the game's Settings, ensure 'Toggle Offline Combat' is enabled. An additional Thieving-only toggle to enable is 'Continue Thieving on Stun'. Also ensure 'Toggle Ignore Bank Full' is enabled or that you have sufficient Bank space; some enemies drop dozens of items.
Q: Is it possible to die while offline?
:A: Yes. If you died when Thieving, you will be notified when you load the character. To avoid this, make sure the NPC's max hit is below your Auto Eat threshold and you have sufficient Food.
Q: Does Damage Reduction from armour work when Thieving?
:A: Yes. The damage taken when stunned is reduced by any Damage Reduction you currently have.
Q: Do the and Damage Reduction Prayer/Herblore work with Thieving?
:A: As of v1.1.1, yes, although this may change in future updates. Damage Reduction Potion IV and the prayers , , and work in Thieving without consuming any charges or prayer points!
===Farming=== | |||
Q: How do I start Farming? Why can't I plant my seeds?
:A: At the beginning of the game, you can only grow Potatoes, which require to plant. As your skill level increases, you will be able to plant more things, including herbs and trees.
Q: Where do I get seeds? | |||
:A: Check the Seeds page to see where you can find each seed. Your main seed sources are Bird Nest, Thieving, and Combat. When you have mastered farming, you will get seeds from everything except Trees. For Tree seeds you will need to find other sources.
Q: Why are my plants disappearing before I can harvest them?
:A: Initially, plants have a base 50% survival rate. If they survive, then you can harvest them, but if they didn't, you get nothing. You can purchase Compost and Weird Gloop from the shop to guarantee the survival of a plant. When you reach the 25% mastery checkpoint in farming, your crops will have a 100% chance of survival, but you will should continue to use Weird Gloop.
Q: Should I ever use Compost in farming?
:A: No, unless you have no other choice. You can use Compost to purchase Weird Gloop from the shop which will increase the quantity of produce harvested as well as guarantee the crop. If you have reached the 25% mastery checkpoint in farming then carry on using Weird Gloop to benefit from increased yields.
Q: Should I use the harvest all (etc) buttons?
:A: Yes, when you can afford to do so. Initially you will find it cost prohibitive and instead you will be forced to farm manually.
Q: Why can't I find any farming mastery tokens?
:A: Mastery tokens have a chance to drop for each action, and farming has far fewer actions than other skills. Keep farming and you will get them in time.
===Fletching=== | |||
Q: Can I get arrows without Fletching?
:A: Yes. Some monsters drop arrows when killed as well as some NPCs in Thieving, so it's possible to level Ranged without Fletching.
===Crafting=== | |||
Q: Why can't I buy Black Dragonhide from the Shop?
:A: Black Dragonhide can only be looted from Black Dragon.
Q: How do I get Basic Bag?
:A: You can only get Basic Bag from Thieving.
===Runecrafting=== | |||
Q: How do you get Runecrafting to a high level? Runes give so little XP.
:A: Crafting Combination Runes provides much more XP than regular Runes do, and the 25% Mastery Pool bonus increases base XP for Runes to 250% of the regular value.
===Herblore=== | |||
Q: I made a potion, how do I use it?
:A: To use a potion, go to the skill that the potion is for. If it is a combat potion, go to the Combat page. At the top right of the screen there is a button with an empty potion that you can press, and from there you should be able to select any potions you have in your inventory for that skill. Note the 'Auto Re-use Potions for this Skill' option - having that active means that when the potion you're using runs out of charges, it automatically starts using another potion of the same type.
Q: How do you get higher tier potions?
:A: When creating potions their tier is determined by the Mastery level of that potion. Once you have unlocked a potion tier you can upgrade 3 lower tier potions to 1 higher tier potion. The tiers are:
:* Tier 1: Mastery level 1.
:* Tier 2: Mastery level 20.
:* Tier 3: Mastery level 50.
:* Tier 4: Mastery level 90.
:Also note that it is possible to get a potion of a random tier when using an Herblore Potion.
Q: How do I craft a potion of a lower tier for the Township task or Completion Log?
:A: The Herblore Potion gives you a chance to create an additional potion of a random tier, while making potions.
Q: How do I craft the Deadly Toxins Potion?
:A: Equip the Toxic Maker Gloves and craft Lethal Toxins Potion to obtain them.
===Agility=== | |||
Q: Why won't my Obstacles give me bonuses?
:A: For an Obstacle to give bonuses, every Obstacle prior has to be built. If you skip obstacle 7 then obstacles 8, 9, and 10 will not give you any benefits.
Q: Why is my agility training stopping?
:A: When you swap agility obstacles, you will need to start training again.
Q: Why do all the bonuses on obstacle 7 suck? Can I skip this obstacle?
:A: Agility obstacles are intentionally designed with drawbacks as agility is intended to be changed somewhat frequently. Keep the most beneficial and least detrimental obstacles active, and swap the ones that are no longer helpful for whatever task you are working on.
===Summoning=== | |||
Q: How do I find marks and start training this skill?
:A: Summoning has three components: You find marks while training other skills, then craft familiar tablets, then use those tablets while training other skills.
:For example, when Woodcutting you will find an Ent mark. Then go to {{Skill|Summoning}, tablets/familiars, Ent. Tap the blue "Select Recipe" button to select a desired log type to use, and tap the green circle to buy some Summoning Shard (Green). Then you can start crafting Ent tablets. When you are Woodcutting, equip your Ent tablets and you will start using them and earning summoning xp as well as benefitting from the familiars' buffs!
Q: I only have 1/61 Marks. Why can't I find more?
:A: After finding the new Mark, you have to craft the corresponding Tablet once to be able to find more of that Mark.
Q: How do I gather so many of this low level item to craft tablets?
:A: Tap the blue "Select Recipe" button to change which item you are using to craft with. As you gain mastery levels, you gain higher item cost reduction for making tablets.
Q: Why does this tablet recipe seem imbalanced?
:A: Item costs for tablets are based on the item's sell cost. This is why it takes more Redwood Logs than Magic Logs to make Ent tablets.
Q: Making tablets to level up Summoning is so slow, how do I level up quicker?
:A: Your main source of summoning xp is spending tablets while training skills. You spend three tablets (two primary and one secondary) instead of one when you have a synergy active so you get much more xp. Try to have a synergy active for all the skilling you do, the buffs more than compensate for the time and resources spent creating tablets as you progress.
===Astrology=== | |||
Q: How do I follow this guide about rerolling modifiers?
:A: Astrology was reworked in V1.1 and no longer has random modifiers. Instead, now you spend stardust to permanently increase the effect of a star's modifiers.
Q: What is a Meteorite, how do I use it?
:A: In the Throne of the Herald Expansion, you can find meteorites in astrology. This will add HP to your meteorite node in mining, even if you don't have the mining level to mine it yet.
Q: What does the Devil/Owl summoning synergy do? Why do I get +4 gold stardust but then no longer receive it?
:A: The synergy text is auto generated from the code, and hasn't been manually updated to be more clear. You receive +4 quantity of stardust and no longer receive any gold stardust.
===Township=== | |||
Q: What should I do first?
:A: Check out the Township and Township/Training pages.
Q: How do I gain resources and/or experience?
:A: Township updates automatically once every hour. When these updates occur, the player will receive resources and experience, where the amount of resources gained with each update can be seen on the tiles near the top of the Township page in-game. Using the gained resources to construct additional buildings can increase the amount of resources gained with each update.
Q: Why aren't I gaining resources?
:A: Check whether your storage is full. If so, excess resources can be traded using the trader, or can be thrown away by using the "Yeet Resources" section of the "Manage Storage" tab. A cap for each resource may also be set under the manage storage tab, which can prevent storage filling up with an excessive amount of any one resource.
Q: What do I gain from this skill?
:A: Township unlocks new items and pets from the Shop, including experience boosting gear. Your town can generate a huge amount of GPGP and any Township resources gained can be traded with the trader for a number of Consumables or resources such as logs, ores, or potions. The consumable items provide benefits to many other skills within the game, and cannot be obtained from elsewhere in the game.
Q: I've made some poor choices with the buildings I have constructed, can I restart?
:A: Towns cannot be restarted following the Township rework introduced as part of V1.1.2. You will simply have to wait for enough updates to pass until you have enough resources to construct further buildings.
Q: Is it worth doing any of the township tasks?
:A: Yes. The Casual tasks will help your town grow quicker, and will provide you some resources at the start of the game. The main tasks (Easy through Elite) will unlock unique items in the Shop that can help level up your skills and give permanent boosts to all areas of the game.
Q: How do I craft a tier 1 potion for the township task?
:A: The Herblore Potion gives you a chance to create an additional potion of a random tier, while making potions.
Q: How do I kill 42,069 golbins for the township task?
:A: Go to the Golbin Village and start killing Golbin. This Golden Golbin article has more information on how to complete this task. Also, Kills of the Ranged Golbin and the Golbin Raid mini game do not count towards this total.
== | ==Gameplay== | ||
===General=== | ===General===
Q: Do I have to manually start a dungeon every time?
:A: No. You can enable the Auto Restart Dungeon option in the menu.
Q: I lost X item because my Bank was full/because I died. Can I get it back?
:A: Unfortunately once an item is lost there is no way to recover it. The exception to this is items purchased from the Shop - like Skillcapes - which can be repurchased at their original price.
Q: This skill is taking forever to level, what am I doing wrong?
:A: Skills typically take longer to level the higher they get and players often measure their progress in hours or days. There are also Skill Training Guides available on the wiki. You may find additional information on Discord about how to level optimally.
Q: Is 99 the level cap? How are levels displayed past 99?
:A: Without the Throne of the Herald Expansion, levels only have a mechanical impact up to 99, past that Virtual Levels must be turned on in Settings to keep track. Virtual Levels are a purely visual change allowing the player to see the effect of their experience level past 120. After v0.15, Mastery levels are hard capped at 99.
:With the Throne of the Herald Expansion, levels go to 120 with lots of new content!
Q: Is there an experience cap or maximum item stack?
:A: There is no limit that you can reach. The only limit to experience or number of items you can have is the limit in Javascript as <code>MAXIMUM_SAFE_INTEGER</code>. This is currently set at <math>2^{53-1} = 9,007,199,254,740,991</math>.
===Mastery=== | |||
Q: What is mastery? | |||
:A: Mastery is a secondary system of levels tied to individual items within a skill. Each item in a non-combat skill has a level associated with it. You earn mastery experience for an item by gathering/crafting it. You also earn mastery xp towards your mastery pool for the skill, which unlocks perks at certain checkpoints.
Q: | Q: How do I spend my mastery pool xp?
A: | :A: Select "Spend Mastery Pool XP" at the top of the skill page, and you will be able to use mastery XP to upgrade individual items. If the +1 icon is shown as amber then it means that performing this action will take you below a mastery checkpoint.
Q: When should I spend my mastery pool xp?
:A: This is entirely up to you. For a simple answer, excess mastery pool XP beyond 95% can be spent freely. Below this you should consider what the Checkpoint offers vs the benefit of improving an items level. Alternatively, just buy everything and have fun. There is no wrong way to play Melvor Idle!
Q: Should I use Mastery Tokens?
:A: Yes. These can be used as soon as you acquire them. However, if your mastery threshold would exceed 100% then you will not be able to use them unless you either spend some of your mastery XP, or sell these tokens.
Q: | ===Shop/Selling===
Q: How do I earn more GP? | |||
A: | :A: This depends greatly on what skills and items you have, however you can check out the Money Making page for some ideas. Late game, the township can be used to provide a lot of GP passively.
Q: | Q: Why are some items so expensive in the Shop?
A: | :A: Some items are intended to be late game purchase. However, if you have the "buy" multiplier higher than 1, then it may be showing you the cost for purchasing more than one of that item. If lowering your Buy multiplier does not fix the issue, then that is the price.
Q: Can I buy mulitple gloves?
:A: Yes. You can buy them multiple times and all charges will stack into 1 glove of that type. For example, 4000 charges can be added to one pair of Gem Gloves.
Q: How do I add an item to the skilling Quick Equip Menu?
:A: Select the item in your bank, click the Cog icon to open the Item Settings menu, then use the checkboxes in the Minibar Settings to set which skills will have the item you selected appear in their Quick Equip Menus
Q: | Q: I sold an item, how do I clear it from my Quick Equip Menu?
A: | :A: The only in-game way is to get the item again and turn in off in the cog menu in the bank. You can use a console command to clear your menus using the method here.
Q: How did I get this expensive ring/circlet/jewel drop? Should I sell it?
:A: You can receive these items very rarely while training your skills or in combat. Do not sell your only copy of them. For details look at the pages for Signet Ring Half (a), Signet Ring Half (b), Circlet of Rhaelyx, and Jewel of Rhaelyx
Q: Where did this Gold Topaz Ring come from?
:A: Gold Topaz Ring is an item which is given to the player in place of an Aorpheat's Signet Ring half, when the requirement of wearing a Gold Topaz Ring is not met. See Signet Ring Half (a) and Signet Ring Half (b) for more details on how to find the Aorpheat's Signet Ring.
Q: | ===Bank=== | ||
Q: My Bank is full, what do I do?
A: | :A: You can purchase Bank Slots from the Shop. Over time you will need many hundreds of bank slots to hold all of your items, and price of bank slots will continue to increase until it reaches 5000000 per slot. You can also save space by selling items that you don't need, or those that do not take long to re-gather. For example, you might consider selling Tin Ore once you are smithing Iron Bar. However, most items will have a use in time, and there are a some items that you shouldn't consider selling because you will need them later. These include Strawberry Seeds, Dragon Bones, Antique Vase.
Q: How many Bank slots are there?
:A: You can get as many as you'd like, but after purchasing 118 slots the price maxes out at 5000000 per slot. Bank slots can also be gained by using Bank Slot Token. Hardcore has a HardcoreBankMax bank slot limit from the Shop, but Bank Slot Token can still be used. If the ItA is owned, an additional 88 bank slot can be purchased for 5000000 AP each for a total of 196 purchase-able bank slots.
Q: Can we get more Bank Tabs?
:A: Yes, this is possible since V1.2. Additional Bank Tabs may be bought from the Shop at a price of 100000000 each.
Q: | Q: Should I buy a new Bank Tab from the shop?
A: | :A: The bank tab item provides an empty new tab - it does not give you any new bank slots. At the start of the game you are given 12 bank slots to help organize your items. You will only need this item if you have lots of GP and you have a lot of items to organize. It should not be on your "must have" list early on in the game.
Q: How do I change a Bank Tab's icon?
:A: Select the item in your Bank, click the gear icon/tab to switch to Item Settings, then click the Select Tab button and choose which tab(s) should show this icon. Note that there is currently no way to revert to the default icon once you have manually set an icon.
: You can use this code to clear all Bank Tab icons:
:<syntaxhighlight lang="javascript">game.bank.tabIcons.clear();
for(let i=0; i<12;i++) game.bank.renderQueue.tabIcons.add(i);</syntaxhighlight>
:(For more information, see this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MelvorIdle/comments/yo4pn0/is_there_a_way_to_reset_chosen_bank_tab_icons/ )
Q: | Q: I just bought a TotHSuperior Skillcape, but it's not showing up in my Quick Equip menu.
A: | :A: No Throne of the Herald Expansion items get added to the Quick Equip menu by default. To add or remove an item from the Quick Equip menu, select the item in your Bank, click the gear icon/tab to switch to Item Settings, then click the various toggles under the Minibar Settings area.
===[[ | ===Pets=== | ||
Q: Where can I see which Pets I have unlocked?
:A: Unlocked pets can be viewed within the Pets section of the Completion Log, which can be accessed from the left-hand side menu.
Q: Do I need to equip a Pet for the effect to be active?
:A: No. If you have unlocked a pet then the effect will be active forever, whether you want it to or not.
Q: How do I | Q: How do I unlock a pet? I have reached the maximum skill level and still don't have it!
A: | :A: The Pets page has the rates for each pet. If you are at a high skill level and you don't have the pet you are just unlucky, the game is not broken.
Q: | ==Other== | ||
Q: A Wiki page was missing some information I think should be there, can you please add it?
A: | :A: The Wiki is a work in progress and we try to update it with as much information as possible. When new patches are released, the Wiki lags behind while new information is added. If you think something should be added to the Wiki, please let us know on Discord in #wiki-discussion.
Q: | Q: I've heard people using certain acronyms/abbreviations before, what do they mean?
A: | :A: Please refer to the Glossary page, which contains many of the abbreviations commonly used by the community.
=== | ===Bugs, Glitches and Lag===
Q: I'm getting this bug/error/glitch!
A: Before you do anything else, back up your save. Then disable your mods, restart your game and see if the bug persists.
Q: My game keeps crashing on Mobile.
* If on an Android device, disable Accessibility Services.
* Disable all mods. If the game loads, slowly re-enable mods until you find the culprit.
* Load another save. Try making a new game file to see if your save(s) got corrupted. Remember to back up frequently.
* Clear your cache. Also try reinstalling the game.
Q: I'm getting significant lag or slowness.
* If on an Android device, disable Accessibility Services.
* Disable all mods. If the game loads, slowly re-enable mods until you find the culprit.
* Turn off progress bars and combat damage splashes in the settings menu.
* Your browser may be throttling Melvor Idle while the tab is in the background/not visible. For potential solutions, see: Mitigating Browser Throttling.
Q: | Q: My game has text over all of the items in my bank.
A: | :A: You turned on the "Minor accessibility features" setting, turn it off in the settings menu.
Q: I'm still experiencing a bug after trying everything above.
:A: Search Discord or Reddit to see if others are having the same issue. You can also look at the game's issues page on Github: https://github.com/MelvorIdle/melvoridle.github.io/issues. This is the official place to make bug reports, reports anywhere else may not be seen by the devs.
Q: Why does my game show that I have only been playing for one year when my account is older than that?
:A: This statistic was only added in v1.0 which was released on November 19th, 2021. This means if your account is older than that, it will only show the time since 1.0 came out.
Q: | ===Saving=== | ||
Q: How do I back up my save locally? Should I do it?
A: | :A: Yes, in fact the game tells you to do this every time you select your character!
==Other== | :To back up your save, go to the character select screen, and tap on the settings button on the save slot you want to back up. Then, tap any of the bottom three options. The "create shareable URL" option is most convenient, this will copy a short URL to your clipboard. Now you can paste this URL somewhere safe, like a notes app that has a cloud sync. It is suggested to leave yourself a quick note next to the URL to mark the date or any other identifying info for later.
:If you want to use the backup, go to the settings menu of the slot you want to replace, tap "Import save", and then paste.
:How often you back up your saves locally is a personal decision, but at least once a month at minimum is suggested. While cloud saves are great, it is possible to accidentally overwrite your cloud save and lose significant progress, so they alone should not be relied upon as a backup.
Q: Why would I need a Melvor Cloud account?
:A: Creating a free Melvor Cloud account allows you to easily swap between devices and keep your progress, and back up and recover your save files. Save files are not backed up by Steam or any other service.
Q: What are local and cloud saves? Do I need to force save?
:A: There are two types of saves: cloud, and local. Local saves are saved every 10 seconds and are stored on your device. Cloud saves require a free Melvor Cloud account and push a copy of your local save to the cloud. This happens automatically every 12 hours if you have "Auto Save to Cloud" turned on in the settings (on by default). You can also manually update your cloud save by tapping the green "Force Save" button at the top of the screen. It is recommended that you force save before leaving the app, especially if you plan to play next on a different device.
:When you are loading your game, you will want to load the most recent save. If you last played on the device you are using, the local save will be more recent. If you last played on another device and saved to the cloud, the cloud save will be more recent. Tap the "Show Cloud Saves" or "Show Local Saves" button at the top of the screen to swap which saves are shown.
Q: Is it possible to transfer saves between devices without a Melvor Cloud account?
:A: Yes. To do so, click the cog in the top right of the save you wish to transfer. There are three options:
* Create Sharable Save URL - This option creates a URL that contains your save string.
* Download Save - This downloads a text document with your save string inside.
* Export Save - This will simply show the save string.
:To import a save, click the cog in the top right of the save slot you wish to import the save to then click 'Import Save'. You can either paste the URL inside this box or the raw save string from one of the other methods.
Q: I forgot my Melvor Cloud password, can I recover my account?
:A: Click the "Forgot Password?" button on the login page and follow the instructions. If you didn't have an email associated with your account, then you can try to ask for help on Discord.
Q: I can't sign in to Melvor Cloud even though I know my e-mail address and password are correct!
:A: Ensure you are attempting to sign in using your username, not your e-mail address. If you can't remember your username, then click the "Forgot Password?" button and follow the instructions, as the e-mail you receive will mention the username associated with your e-mail address.
Q: My save isn't loading/is broken, how can I fix it?
:A: First, try disabling mods. If "Fix my Save" in Account Settings doesn't work and you can't reload an older save, there may be another issue preventing your save from working. If it doesn't work, ask on the official Discord.
Q: How did I lose progress?
:A: This is usually due to loading the older local or cloud save and then overwriting the newer one. Make sure the save you load is the newest version. If you are consistently backing up your saves locally, you can load your backup and lose less progress.
Q: My Hardcore character account was deleted!
:A: Your character died while offline, because it was hit higher than your auto eat threshold or you ran out of food or other consumables. You can see your latest hardcore cause of death at the bottom of your character select screen.
Q: Will there ever be a save reset?
:A: No, there are currently no plans for a save reset.
===Other game modes===
Q: How do I play Adventure or Hardcore mode?
:A: You must purchase the Full Version to play these game modes. Start a new character and choose your game mode. You cannot swap your game mode after character creation except through mods.
Q: My Hardcore character account was deleted!
:A: Your character died when offline, because it was hit higher than your auto eat threshold or you ran out of food or other consumables. You can see your latest hardcore cause of death at the bottom of your character select screen.
Q: How do I recover my Hardcore account after it died?
:A: You cannot, it's called hardcore for a reason! You can revert back to a previous save, using a save link or exported save file. You can also load an old cloud save if you have "Back up to cloud automatically" turned off in the settings, otherwise the cloud save is automatically deleted.
Q: Why is my Adventure mode character stuck at X skill level?
:A: Noncombat skills in adventure mode are limited to your Combat Level. Increase your combat level to continue leveling up your skills.
Q: What skill should I buy next in Adventure mode? How do I earn enough gp?
:A: In general, you want to increase your combat capabilities to reach 99 combat level, and earn more gp to unlock more skills. As of 12/13/22 the Adventure/Guide page is outdated but still has good advice. Notably, township is a very powerful skill in adventure mode and can generate a lot of gp and resources passively. For other money making methods look at the Money Making page.
===Free Demo and Full Version===
Q: What is the difference between the Free Demo and Full Version?
:A: The free demo has limited skills, items and enemies compared to the Full Version. After you get a taste of the game from the demo, consider purchasing a one-time unlock to the full version! Your progress from the demo will transfer over. For more details on the differences, read the Full Version page.
Q: Where can I buy and play the Full Version?
:A: You can buy the full version on these platforms. Note that the cost is the same for each in USD, but may be slightly different in other currencies.
:[store.steampowered.com/app/1267910/Melvor_Idle/ Buy Melvor Full version on Steam]

:*Become an Elite Supporter on Patreon to get a Steam key and Full version on mobile
Q: If I buy the Full Version on X platform, can I play it on Y platform?
:A: Yes, except if you buy on mobile you are not able to play the steam version. See more details on the Full Version page.
Q: Do I need to purchase expansions separately?
:A: Yes, expansions are a separate purchase from the Full Version.
Q: Are there subscriptions or micro transactions?
:A: No, Melvor Idle only has the one-time Full Version unlock, and the Throne of the Herald Expansion.
===Throne of the Herald Expansion===
Q: What is this expansion?
:A: Throne of the Herald Expansion is Melvor's first expansion. It raises the skill level from 99 to 120 and adds lots of new enemies, dungeons, and hundreds of new items. You can buy it on the steam store or as an in app purchase on the iOS or Android apps.
Q: If I buy the Throne of the Herald Expansion on X platform, will my account have the new content on Y platform?
:A: Yes, if you buy the expansion anywhere you will have access to it anywhere you could already play the game.
Q: Should I buy the Throne of the Herald Expansion now or wait?
:A: If you plan on buying the expansion eventually, there's no reason to wait until you reach a certain point. You will be able to train new items once you get past lvl99 in any skill. You will also earn more mastery xp per action and find meteorites in astrology.
:Note that when you purchase the expansion, your mastery pool percentage will drop as new items are added. This one-time drop is more detrimental the more mastery pools you have filled up.
Q: I already have virtual levels past lvl99, will they carry over when I buy the Throne of the Herald Expansion?
:A: You can choose whether you want to keep your levels, or if you want to reset them back to lvl99.
===Platforms=== | |||
Q: Which platforms can I play Melvor on?
:A: Melvor is available on a web browser, android and iOS apps, and on Steam. Find more details on the Full Version page.
Q: Is there a difference what platform you play on? What are the benefits of the Steam version?
:A: The game is the same across all platforms apart from UI changes for different screen sizes. All features, gameplay and content are the same.
:In addition to providing access to the Full Version, the Steam version provides achievements, trading cards, Discord rich presence, no throttling (which can slow down game play in web browsers), plus all of the usual Steam features such as tracking time played.
Q: If I buy the Full Version on X platform, can I play it on Y platform?
:A: Yes, except if you buy on mobile you are not able to play the steam version. See more details on the Full Version page.

This is a page for frequently asked questions, organized by category.
If you are new to the game, the Beginner's Guide is a good place to get started.
Here are other platforms to find more Melvor information and community:
Although every effort is made to keep this page up to date, it may lag behind. If information on this page conflicts with information you see elsewhere, assume this page is the one that is incorrect.
General
Q: Why haven't I gotten that rare drop yet?
- A: The drop rates are often given in the wiki, but the drop-rate is very different to the chance of getting that reward through farming.
- A: Some items can be upgraded to improve their stats or create new equipment.
- A: For some skills, yes. You can earn Error creating thumbnail: File missingMagic XP with Alt Magic, andError creating thumbnail: File missingStrength XP by wearing Barbarian Gloves and catching fish in the Barbarian Fishing area. You can also obtain boosts for combat skills such asError creating thumbnail: File missingAstrology,Error creating thumbnail: File missingAgility andError creating thumbnail: File missingCartography.
Combat
Q: Are there any beginners guide for combat?
- A: Yes, check out the beginner's guide for an overview of the combat skills. More detailed information about Error creating thumbnail: File missingCombat mechanics can be found on the Combat page.
Q: How do I level up in combat?
- A: There are many Guides on the wiki to help! Check out the Combat Guide, and the guides for melee, ranged and magic.
Q: How do I obtain the Amulet of Looting?
- A: You will need to complete the Error creating thumbnail: File missingSpider Forest dungeon to get a chance of finding this rare item. See the Spider Forest/Guide for tips on how to beat this dungeon.
Q: How is XP for
skills calculated?
- A: XP is gained for Error creating thumbnail: File missingCombat based on damage you do (and not the damage you receive). You will receive XP for each of the combat skills that you are using. For example, if you are using melee slash, then it will increaseError creating thumbnail: File missingStrength, but notError creating thumbnail: File missingAttack. TheError creating thumbnail: File missingSlayer XP will be awarded when you do Slayer tasks or kill Slayer monsters. Skills likeError creating thumbnail: File missingPrayer have XP that varies depending on the prayer used. See Combat for more details.
Q: How much Damage Reduction (DR) do I have?
- A: The Stats Card that can be found in the combat section of the game (or see the Error creating thumbnail: File missingStats on Mobile) and show your actual DR for the monster you are fighting. Note that the "View Equipment Stats" page will not include any modifiers from Pets orError creating thumbnail: File missingAgility, for example, and so may not show your actual DR.
Q: My Damage Reduction (DR) is different than what I expected?
- A: Damage Reduction is calculated by adding up all of your boosts, but can be lowered by buffs from things such as skills, Pets. For exammple, some Error creating thumbnail: File missingAgility obstacles can lower your DR, and certain enemies can also reduce DR. The Combat Triangle might also be negatively impacting your DR.
Q: How do I idle a monster without dying?
- A: The main factors that let you safely idle a monster are your Error creating thumbnail: File missingHitpoints and Damage Reduction (DR). However, it is still possible for you to run out of food, or for your consumables (such as ammo, or boosts) to run out leading to death. See the how to idle monsters of combat for more information.
Q: How can I avoid taking so much damage from dragonbreath attacks?
- A: You can reduce dragonbreath damage with your Damage Reduction, using the Dragonfire Shield, and the Error creating thumbnail: File missingCyclops/Error creating thumbnail: File missingDragon summoning synergy. However, your best bet is to just stock up on Food and kill the dragons more efficiently. You will generally be best off usingError creating thumbnail: File missingMagic against dragons. Try to increase your damage and item doubling instead of focusing on defence.
Q: Can I fight monsters offline?
- A: Yes. It was introduced early on and can be enabled from the Settings menu.
Q: Does the 100% item doubling from Big ol Ron stack with other sources of item doubling?
- A: No. Item doubling is limited to a 100% chance.
Dungeons
Q: Are the guides for dungeons?
- A: Yes. The wiki has guides for many of the dungeons, see Dungeon Guides for more information.
Q: Does item doubling such as Chapeau Noir and Aorpheat's Signet Ring work on dungeon chests? Do these items stack?
- A: Yes and Yes.
Q: Why am I safe to idle the boss Malcs in the
dungeon even though it has a higher max hit than my Auto Eat threshold?
- A: This boss does not use its normal attack, so its max hit is only 520 damage and not its listed max hit of 982.
Q: I've cleared this dungeon many times but have not unlocked the Ancient/Archaic Magicks spell for it.
- A: With item doubling, you can also double chest drops which increases your odds of getting these rare items. However, drop-rates do not guarantee you will get the reward quickly. You can find your dungeon clear count in Completion Log > Monsters > Dungeon Bosses under the heading "Times Slain". See here to learn more about how drop rates work.
Death
Q: What happens when you die?
- A: When you die a random item from your currently selected Equipment Set will be lost forever. You can lose full stacks of ammo, consumables and summoning tablets, but not food or potions. If your character is in Error creating thumbnail: File missingHardcore mode, on death it is permanently deleted instead. If you have theError creating thumbnail: File missingProtect Item prayer equiped then you will not lose any items on death.
Q: I had
on, how did I die?
- A: You died because you either ran out of food or the max hit of the enemy exceeded the threshold for Error creating thumbnail: File missingAuto Eat. For example if you haveError creating thumbnail: File missingAuto Eat - Tier I, it has 20% health threshold and you have 100 HP. As the threshold forError creating thumbnail: File missingAuto Eat to trigger would be <=20 HP, an enemy with a max hit >21 could kill you without ever triggeringError creating thumbnail: File missingAuto Eat.
- Some more difficult enemies have special attacks that apply status effects like stun that can let them deal more damage to you than their max hit. Please see the Combat Effects page for more information!
Melee (Error creating thumbnail: File missing Attack, Error creating thumbnail: File missing Strength, Error creating thumbnail: File missing Defence)
Q: How do I level these and what do they do?
- A: Check out the beginner's guide for an overview of the combat skills. More detailed information about Combat mechanics can be found on the Error creating thumbnail: File missingCombat page. Basically,Error creating thumbnail: File missingAttack level increases your accuracy and chance to hit,Error creating thumbnail: File missingStrength increases your Max Hit, andError creating thumbnail: File missingDefence increases your melee evasion rating.
Q: Does
also increase your
and
Evasion?
- A: Yes, increasing Error creating thumbnail: File missingDefence level will also improve yourError creating thumbnail: File missingRanged andError creating thumbnail: File missingMagic evasion.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Hitpoints
Q: Is it possible to get above 990
?
- A: Yes. Finn, the Cat provides +10 maximum HP, and Dragonfire Shield provides +30 maximum HP. Also, some obstacles in Error creating thumbnail: File missingAgility can increase your maximum HP. If you have purchased the Throne of the Herald Expansion, you can level up Hitpoints to 120, to a max base hp of 1,200.
Q: Why are my/enemy hitpoints and damage much higher than I expected?
- A: If you are playing on Adventure mode, all hitpoints, damage, and Food healing are multiplied by 10. This is purely a cosmetic change.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Ranged
Q: Is
worth leveling?
- A: Yes. Error creating thumbnail: File missingRanged has better clear times than melee for many different combat scenarios, especially against magic enemies. However, you will need to craft or find ammo. You will need ranged to progress through the god dungeons (guides are available here).
Q: What is the best way to level up
?
- A: Use longbows. Use Accurate attack style when you're below Error creating thumbnail: File missingLevel 5 and Rapid later. Check out the Combat Guide for equipment and milestones.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Magic
Q: Is
worth leveling?
- A: Yes, Error creating thumbnail: File missingMagic is extremely effective at killing melee monsters, and most of the monsters in the game are melee. Most monsters have lowError creating thumbnail: File missingMagic evasion, so you can kill them faster than with other styles. Also, Ancient Magicks are very useful in certain situations. You will need ranged to progress through the god dungeons https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Guides#Dungeon_Guides
- In addition, there are a variety of useful non-Combat spells that can be used via Error creating thumbnail: File missingAlternative Magic, including Blessed Offering to generateError creating thumbnail: File missingPrayer points, and theError creating thumbnail: File missingSuperheat series of spells that generates multiple bars per set of ores used and at the highest tier allow you to smelt bars without needing any Coal.
Q: How do I level up
?
- A: There is a Magic/Training guide that will show you how to do this. You can also use Error creating thumbnail: File missingAlternative Magic to level without combat.
Q: How do I make
weapons and armor?
- A: In addition to runes, the Error creating thumbnail: File missingRunecrafting skill allows you to craftError creating thumbnail: File missingMagic weapons and armour, similar to how theError creating thumbnail: File missingSmithing skill works for melee combat.
Q: Are staves worth making?
- A: Yes. When equipped, staves reduce the number of Air, Water, Earth, or Fire runes needed for spells, depending on the staff type.
Q: What are curses and auroras? Should I use them?
- A: Curses debuff enemies, while auroras buff the player. Some of these are very powerful and are important in late game combat. In the early game, it may or may not be worth it depending on your Error creating thumbnail: File missingRunecrafting level. You cannot use curses with Ancient Magicks. Curses and auroras do not directly give magic XP, but they can increase your damage output and therefore your XP gain.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Prayer
Q: Does burying bones give
XP?
- A: No, they give you prayer points, used to activate prayers during Error creating thumbnail: File missingCombat. Most prayers will give you Prayer XP while active, unless specified.
Q: What is the number next to
in the sidebar?
- A: That is your Prayer Points. Prayer Points are used to cast Prayers in Combat. You can train your Prayer skill only by using prayers in the combat.
Q: How do I train Prayer efficiently?
- A: See the Prayer/Guide for more information.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Slayer
Q: How do I get a new Slayer Task?
- A: Go to combat, and tap the Error creating thumbnail: File missingSlayer icon below your equipped food. If you don't see it, unhide it by tapping the "Show/hide player container" button above your HP bar. Then, tap new task and select the difficulty.
Q: How do I get
XP?
- A: Completing Slayer Tasks will give you Slayer XP equal to 10% of that monster's HP. Alternatively, defeating any monster in Slayer Areas will give you XP equal to 5% of that monster's Hitpoints. These can be combined, so if the player's Slayer Task is to kill a monster in a Slayer Area, they'll receive XP equal to 15% of that monster's HP.
Q: How do I get
? What is the number next to
in the sidebar?
- A: Error creating thumbnail: File missingSlayer Coins are displayed in the sidebar next to theError creating thumbnail: File missingSlayer skill and in the Shop next to total GP. Slayer Coins can only be earned by completing Slayer Tasks. Monsters killed for Slayer Tasks earn Slayer Coins and Slayer experience points equal to 10% of the slain monster's Hitpoints.
Q: What should I first spend
on?
- A: Generally, you will want to unlock the Error creating thumbnail: File missingAuto Slayer upgrade first to earn more coins easier. After that you may want to buy items that allow you to fight in new slayer areas, start buying slayer armour and the Skull Cape.
Q: What is a Slayer Area Effect and Flat Slayer Area Effect Negation?
- A: Slayer Areas each have a persistent effect, which will debuff the player or buff the enemies found there as long as you are fighting in that area. The first few areas have minor effects, but as you progress they become much more impactful.
- To overcome the effect, you need Slayer Area Effect Negation.
Non-Combat Skills
How do I level a skill?
Please see the Skill Training Guides.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Woodcutting
Q: How did I get a Bird Nest?
- A: Bird Nests have a 0.5% chance to drop every time a tree is cut. The chance and quantity of nest drops can be increased by various means, listed on the Bird Nest page.
Q: What's the fastest way to 1,000,000 Bird Nests for the township task?
- A: Get all of the interval reduction, bird nest drop rate, and bird nest quantity boosts you can from Skill Boosts. You are trying to get your interval rate to the 0.25s minimum, while earning multiple birds nests per action. This can reduce the grind to about two days.
Q: Why do Redwood Logs sell for so little GP? Shouldn't they sell for more than Magic Logs?
- A: Cutting the Error creating thumbnail: File missingRedwood Tree compared to theError creating thumbnail: File missingMagic Tree trades GP for XP. Redwood Tree gives more XP, and Magic Tree gives more GP.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Fishing
Q: How do I get the Ancient Ring of Mastery and the Ancient Ring of Skills?
- A: These items drop at an incredibly low droprate from any fishing action when you have >1% chance for a special item to drop. You will want to catch fish with a short catch time and high special chance. Raw Seahorse is currently the best special item chance for least catch time, although Raw Skeleton Fish are almost as quick and are much more useful as they can be buried for Prayer Points.
- You should also boost your special chance and reduce your fishing interval. Details here: https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Fishing#Special
Q: How do I get a lot of Ancient Ring of Mastery and the Ancient Ring of Skills for a township task?
- A: When you get a special item, you receive the same amount as you would fish. So if you are getting 4 or 8 fish at a time, you will receive 4 or 8 rings each time they drop.
Q: Why do I always seem to get the wrong Ancient ring type?
- A: You have an equal chance to get the ancient ring of skilling or mastery. See Drop rates for more info on how this mechanic works.
Q: How do I unlock the Secret Area and Barbarian Fishing areas?
- A: To unlock the Secret area you need to randomly find the Message in a Bottle while fishing and read it once. To enter the Barbarian fishing area you must randomly find the Barbarian Gloves while fishing and wear them.
Q: Do I need to keep the Message in a Bottle?
- A: Once the Message in a Bottle has been read, the item no longer has any use and can be sold. Any further bottles found will also have no effect.
Q: Does Junk do anything?
- A: You can safely sell it, but Rope can be upgraded into Bowstrings, and other fishing junk can be turned into gems with the use of Error creating thumbnail: File missingRags to Riches I.
Q: How did I get a Treasure Chest?
- A: When you roll a Special Item, there is a 3.72% chance to get a Treasure Chest.
Q: Should I open the Treasure Chest?
- A: Yes. Although it might seem like you get a log of junk, the Treasure Chest contents are on average four times more valuable than selling the unopened chests.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Firemaking
Q: Is
worth doing?
- A: Yes. Increasing the Error creating thumbnail: File missingFiremaking skill level allows the player to purchase higher tier cooking fires from the Shop. Also, the Firemaking Skillcape (which is purchasable from the Shop upon reachingError creating thumbnail: File missingLevel 99) provides a 5% global experience bonus. Furthermore, getting 99Error creating thumbnail: File missingMastery on each log will give further global Mastery experience.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Cooking
Q: Why can't I cook this chicken/bread/soup?
- A: You must purchase the furnace and pot upgrades from the Shop
Q: What is the difference between Passive and Active
?
- A: Passive Error creating thumbnail: File missingCooking is slower, cannot Perfect cook, and grants no XP or Mastery. However, it can be done at the same time as Actively Cooking other items.
Q: Can I passively cook while training other skills?
- A: No, only while you are actively cooking
Q: I'm cooking an item but it's not showing up in my Bank.
- A: Error creating thumbnail: File missingCooking Upgrade 1 which can be purchased from the Shop lets you automatically equip produced food. Check the toggle button at the top of the Cooking page.
Q: Cooking is so slow! How do I earn food quicker?
- A: Error creating thumbnail: File missingCooking has many buffs to increase the amount of food you can produce.
- Fishing will always be faster than cooking, so you will have a lot of extra raw fish when levelling both.
Q: I've gotten lots of Perfect Cooks, but I still can't trade for the item in Township.
- A: Only cooking regular items counts toward the Township unlock. If you uncheck "Enable Perfect Cooks" option in the game's Settings then you will no longer receive perfect cooks. You can also downgrade perfect cooked fish into their regular counterparts.
Q: I can't craft Burnt Cave Fish.
- A: The only way to obtain Burnt Cave Fish is to kill the Tentacle enemy located in the Sandy Shores area of the regular Combat tab.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Mining
Q: Why are my Mining Gloves/ Gem Gloves not working?
- A: Gloves only work on Ores, not Essences nor Gem Veins. As of v1.1.1 you will still consume glove charges if mining essence or Gem Veins.
Q: Why does this rock take so long to respawn?
- A: Higher level rocks take more time to respawn. You can reduce the time spent waiting for respawn by increasing the chance you deal no damage to a mining node. You can find details on the Error creating thumbnail: File missingMining page.
Q: Do Gem Gloves make a profit?
- A: Yes. If all the charges from the Gem Gloves are used and the gems obtained are sold, the expected profit is around 262,000.
Q: What are gems for? Should I sell them?
- A: Gems are used for Error creating thumbnail: File missingCrafting jewelry, brewing someError creating thumbnail: File missingpotions,Error creating thumbnail: File missingFletching Gem Tipped Bolts, and makingError creating thumbnail: File missingDevil tablets inError creating thumbnail: File missingSummoning. Gem Gloves give players a reliable way to collect more gems, so it's acceptable to sell them early on for GP.
Q: Why is the health on my Gem Veins/Meteorite not increasing?
- A: Only mining Throne of the Herald Expansion rocks has a chance to add health to the Gem vein. They have no natural regeneration. For Meteorites, performing actions in Error creating thumbnail: File missingAstrology has a chance of adding Meteorite health. You can earn meteorite health even before you have the mining level required to mine it.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Smithing
Q: Do I have to level
to do
?
- A: It is possible to find armor as loot when killing monsters, so leveling Error creating thumbnail: File missingSmithing is not technically required. You can find a guide to progress without smithing on the HCCO/Guide page.
Q: Why can't I equip this weapon or armor?
- A: Make sure you have the required combat levels to wear it. If the gear required over 99 smithing to make, it comes from the Throne of the Herald Expansion and requires Error creating thumbnail: File missingImpending Darkness Event to be completed before it may be equipped.
Q: How do I get enough Coal?
- A: You can gather coal in many ways besides mining it directly. Mining anything with the Mining Skillcape equipped will give an extra coal for each action. You can gain coal passively through the township trader. A quick way to earn a lot of coal is to use Error creating thumbnail: File missingCooking with theError creating thumbnail: File missingMole/Error creating thumbnail: File missingPigError creating thumbnail: File missingSummoning Synergy, faster cooks mean more Coal
Q: When should I make bars with
instead of using the
spell
?
- A: Superheat is another viable way to make bars that may or may not be more beneficial for you. Superheat gives you Error creating thumbnail: File missingMagic XP, does not use coal and can make multiple bars at higher levels. However, you don't benefit from item preservation or doubling, you don't gain Mastery Experience, and it is slightly more difficult to obtain buffs and interval reduction effects compared to smithing.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Thieving
Q: Why am I not getting any progress while offline?
- A: In the game's Settings, ensure 'Toggle Offline Combat' is enabled. An additional Thieving-only toggle to enable is 'Continue Thieving on Stun'. Also ensure 'Toggle Ignore Bank Full' is enabled or that you have sufficient Bank space; some enemies drop dozens of items.
Q: Is it possible to die while offline?
- A: Yes. If you died when Error creating thumbnail: File missingThieving, you will be notified when you load the character. To avoid this, make sure the NPC's max hit is below your Auto Eat threshold and you have sufficient Food.
Q: Does Damage Reduction from armour work when
?
- A: Yes. The damage taken when stunned is reduced by any Damage Reduction you currently have.
Q: Do the
and Damage Reduction
/
work with
?
- A: As of v1.1.1, yes, although this may change in future updates. Damage Reduction Potions and the prayers Error creating thumbnail: File missingProtect Item,Error creating thumbnail: File missingSafeguard,Error creating thumbnail: File missingStone Skin andError creating thumbnail: File missingHoly Aegis work inError creating thumbnail: File missingThieving without consuming any charges or prayer points!
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Farming
Q: How do I start
? Why can't I plant my seeds?
- A: At the beginning of the game, you can only grow Potatoes, which require 3 Potato Seeds to plant. As your skill level increases, you will be able to plant more things, including herbs and trees.
Q: Where do I get seeds?
- A: Check the Seeds page to see where you can find each seed. Your main seed sources are Bird Nest, Error creating thumbnail: File missingThieving, and Combat. When you have mastered farming, you will get seeds from everything except Trees. For Tree seeds you will need to find other sources.
Q: Why are my plants disappearing before I can harvest them?
- A: Initially, plants have a base 50% survival rate.
- A: No, unless you have no other choice.
- A: Yes, when you can afford to do so. Initially you will find it cost prohibitive and instead you will be forced to farm manually.
Q: Why can't I find any farming mastery tokens?
- A: Mastery tokens have a chance to drop for each action, and farming has far fewer actions than other skills. Keep farming and you will get them in time.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Fletching
Q: Can I get arrows without
?
- A: Yes. Some monsters drop arrows when killed as well as some NPCs in Error creating thumbnail: File missingThieving, so it's possible to levelError creating thumbnail: File missingRanged withoutError creating thumbnail: File missingFletching.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Crafting
Q: Why can't I buy Black Dragonhide from the
?
- A: Black Dragonhide can only be looted from Black Dragons.
Q: How do I get Basic Bags?
- A: You can only get Basic Bags from Error creating thumbnail: File missingThieving.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Runecrafting
Q: How do you get
to a high level? Runes give so little XP.
- A: Crafting Combination Runes provides much more XP than regular Runes do, and the 25% Mastery Pool bonus increases base XP for Runes to 250% of the regular value.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Herblore
Q: I made a potion, how do I use it?
- A: To use a potion, go to the skill that the potion is for. If it is a combat potion, go to the Error creating thumbnail: File missingCombat page.
- A: When creating potions their tier is determined by the Mastery level of that potion. Once you have unlocked a potion tier you can upgrade 3 lower tier potions to 1 higher tier potion. The tiers are:
- Tier 1: Mastery level 1.
- Tier 2: Mastery level 20.
- Tier 3: Mastery level 50.
- Tier 4: Mastery level 90.
- Also note that it is possible to get a potion of a random tier when using an Herblore Potion.
Q: How do I craft a potion of a lower tier for the
task or Completion Log?
- A: The Herblore Potion gives you a chance to create an additional potion of a random tier, while making potions.
Q: How do I craft the Deadly Toxins Potion?
- A: Equip the Toxic Maker Gloves and craft Lethal Toxins Potion to obtain them.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Agility
Q: Why won't my Obstacles give me bonuses?
- A: For an Obstacle to give bonuses, every Obstacle prior has to be built. If you skip obstacle 7 then obstacles 8, 9, and 10 will not give you any benefits.
Q: Why is my agility training stopping?
- A: When you swap agility obstacles, you will need to start training again.
Q: Why do all the bonuses on obstacle 7 suck? Can I skip this obstacle?
- A: Agility obstacles are intentionally designed with drawbacks as agility is intended to be changed somewhat frequently. Keep the most beneficial and least detrimental obstacles active, and swap the ones that are no longer helpful for whatever task you are working on.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Summoning
Q: How do I find marks and start training this skill?
- A: Summoning has three components: You find marks while training other skills, then craft familiar tablets, then use those tablets while training other skills.
- For example, when Error creating thumbnail: File missingWoodcutting you will find anError creating thumbnail: File missingEnt mark.
- A: After finding the new Mark, you have to craft the corresponding Tablet once to be able to find more of that Mark.
Q: How do I gather so many of this low level item to craft tablets?
- A: Tap the blue "Select Recipe" button to change which item you are using to craft with. As you gain mastery levels, you gain higher item cost reduction for making tablets.
Q: Why does this tablet recipe seem imbalanced?
- A: Item costs for tablets are based on the item's sell cost. This is why it takes more Redwood Logs than Magic Logs to make Error creating thumbnail: File missingEnt tablets.
Q: Making tablets to level up Summoning is so slow, how do I level up quicker?
- A: Your main source of summoning xp is spending tablets while training skills. You spend three tablets (two primary and one secondary) instead of one when you have a synergy active so you get much more xp. Try to have a synergy active for all the skilling you do, the buffs more than compensate for the time and resources spent creating tablets as you progress.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Astrology
Q: How do I follow this guide about rerolling modifiers?
- A: Astrology was reworked in V1.1 and no longer has random modifiers. Instead, now you spend stardust to permanently increase the effect of a star's modifiers.
Q: What is a Meteorite, how do I use it?
- A: In the Throne of the Herald Expansion, you can find meteorites in astrology. This will add HP to your meteorite node in mining, even if you don't have the mining level to mine it yet.
Q: What does the Devil/Owl summoning synergy do? Why do I get +4 gold stardust but then no longer receive it?
- A: The synergy text is auto generated from the code, and hasn't been manually updated to be more clear. You receive +4 quantity of stardust and no longer receive any gold stardust.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Township
Q: What should I do first?
- A: Check out the Error creating thumbnail: File missingTownship and Township/Training pages.
Q: How do I gain resources and/or experience?
- A: Township updates automatically once every hour. When these updates occur, the player will receive resources and experience, where the amount of resources gained with each update can be seen on the tiles near the top of the Township page in-game. Using the gained resources to construct additional buildings can increase the amount of resources gained with each update.
Q: Why aren't I gaining resources?
- A: Check whether your storage is full.
- A: Township unlocks new items and pets from the Error creating thumbnail: File missingShop, including experience boosting gear. Your town can generate a huge amount of GP and any Township resources gained can be traded with the trader for a number of Consumables or resources such as logs, ores, or potions. The consumable items provide benefits to many other skills within the game, and cannot be obtained from elsewhere in the game.
Q: I've made some poor choices with the buildings I have constructed, can I restart?
- A: Towns cannot be restarted following the Township rework introduced as part of V1.1.2. You will simply have to wait for enough updates to pass until you have enough resources to construct further buildings.
Q: Is it worth doing any of the township tasks?
- A: Yes.
- A: The Herblore Potion gives you a chance to create an additional potion of a random tier, while making potions.
Q: How do I kill 42,069 golbins for the township task?
- A: Go to the Error creating thumbnail: File missingGolbin Village and start killing Golbin. ThisError creating thumbnail: File missingGolden Golbin article has more information on how to complete this task. Also, Kills of the Ranged Golbin and the Golbin Raid mini game do not count towards this total.
Gameplay
General
Q: Do I have to manually start a dungeon every time?
- A: No. You can enable the Auto Restart Dungeon option in the menu.
Q: I lost X item because my Bank was full/because I died. Can I get it back?
- A: Unfortunately once an item is lost there is no way to recover it. The exception to this is items purchased from the Shop - like Skillcapes - which can be repurchased at their original price.
Q: This skill is taking forever to level, what am I doing wrong?
- A: Skills typically take longer to level the higher they get and players often measure their progress in hours or days. There are also Skill Training Guides available on the wiki. You may find additional information on Discord about how to level optimally.
Q: Is 99 the level cap? How are levels displayed past 99?
- A: Without the Throne of the Herald Expansion, levels only have a mechanical impact up to 99, past that Virtual Levels must be turned on in Settings to keep track. Virtual Levels are a purely visual change allowing the player to see the effect of their experience level past 120. After v0.15, Mastery levels are hard capped at 99.
- With the Throne of the Herald Expansion, levels go to 120 with lots of new content!
Q: Is there an experience cap or maximum item stack?
- A: There is no limit that you can reach. The only limit to experience or number of items you can have is the limit in Javascript as
MAXIMUM_SAFE_INTEGER
. This is currently set at [math]\displaystyle{ 2^{53-1} = 9,007,199,254,740,991 }[/math].
Mastery
Q: What is mastery?
- A: Error creating thumbnail: File missingMastery is a secondary system of levels tied to individual items within a skill. Each item in a non-combat skill has a level associated with it. You earn mastery experience for an item by gathering/crafting it. You also earn mastery xp towards your mastery pool for the skill, which unlocks perks at certain checkpoints.
Q: How do I spend my mastery pool xp?
- A: Select "Spend Mastery Pool XP" at the top of the skill page, and you will be able to use mastery XP to upgrade individual items. If the +1 icon is shown as amber then it means that performing this action will take you below a mastery checkpoint.
Q: When should I spend my mastery pool xp?
- A: This is entirely up to you.
- A: Yes. These can be used as soon as you acquire them. However, if your mastery threshold would exceed 100% then you will not be able to use them unless you either spend some of your mastery XP, or sell these tokens.
Shop/Selling
Q: How do I earn more GP?
- A: This depends greatly on what skills and items you have, however you can check out the Money Making page for some ideas. Late game, the township can be used to provide a lot of passively.
Q: Why are some items so expensive in the Shop?
- A: Some items are intended to be late game purchase. However, if you have the "buy" multiplier higher than 1, then it may be showing you the cost for purchasing more than one of that item. If lowering your Buy multiplier does not fix the issue, then that is the price.
Q: Can I buy mulitple gloves?
- A: Yes. You can buy them multiple times and all charges will stack into 1 glove of that type. For example, 4000 charges can be added to one pair of Gem Gloves.
Q: How do I add an item to the skilling Quick Equip Menu?
- A: Select the item in your bank, click the Cog icon to open the Item Settings menu, then use the checkboxes in the Minibar Settings to set which skills will have the item you selected appear in their Quick Equip Menus
Q: I sold an item, how do I clear it from my Quick Equip Menu?
- A: The only in-game way is to get the item again and turn in off in the cog menu in the bank. You can use a console command to clear your menus using the method here.
Q: How did I get this expensive ring/circlet/jewel drop? Should I sell it?
- A: You can receive these items very rarely while training your skills or in combat. Do not sell your only copy of them. For details look at the pages for Signet Ring Half (a), Signet Ring Half (b), Circlet of Rhaelyx, and Jewel of Rhaelyx
Q: Where did this Gold Topaz Ring come from?
- A: Gold Topaz Ring is an item which is given to the player in place of an Aorpheat's Signet Ring half, when the requirement of wearing a Gold Topaz Ring is not met. See Signet Ring Half (a) and Signet Ring Half (b) for more details on how to find the Aorpheat's Signet Ring.
Bank
Q: My Bank is full, what do I do?
- A: You can purchase Bank Slots from the Shop. Over time you will need many hundreds of bank slots to hold all of your items, and price of bank slots will continue to increase until it reaches 5,000,000 per slot. You can also save space by selling items that you don't need, or those that do not take long to re-gather. For example, you might consider selling Tin Ore once you are smithing Iron Bars. However, most items will have a use in time, and there are a some items that you shouldn't consider selling because you will need them later. These include Strawberry Seeds, Dragon Bones, Antique Vases.
Q: How many Bank slots are there?
- A: You can get as many as you'd like, but after purchasing 118 slots the price maxes out at 5,000,000 per slot. Bank slots can also be gained by using Bank Slot Tokens. Error creating thumbnail: File missingHardcore Mode has a 108 bank slot limit from the Shop, but Bank Slot Tokens can still be used. If theError creating thumbnail: File missingInto the Abyss Expansion is owned, an additional 88 bank slot can be purchased for 5,000,000 AP each for a total of 196 purchase-able bank slots.
Q: Can we get more Bank Tabs?
- A: Yes, this is possible since V1.2. Additional Bank Tabs may be bought from the Error creating thumbnail: File missingShop at a price of 100,000,000 each.
Q: Should I buy a new Bank Tab from the shop?
- A: The bank tab item provides an empty new tab - it does not give you any new bank slots. At the start of the game you are given 12 bank slots to help organize your items. You will only need this item if you have lots of GP and you have a lot of items to organize. It should not be on your "must have" list early on in the game.
Q: How do I change a Bank Tab's icon?
- A: Select the item in your Bank, click the gear icon/tab to switch to Item Settings, then click the Select Tab button and choose which tab(s) should show this icon. Note that there is currently no way to revert to the default icon once you have manually set an icon.
- You can use this code to clear all Bank Tab icons:
game.bank.tabIcons.clear(); for(let i=0; i<12;i++) game.bank.renderQueue.tabIcons.add(i);
- (For more information, see this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MelvorIdle/comments/yo4pn0/is_there_a_way_to_reset_chosen_bank_tab_icons/ )
Q: I just bought a Superior Skillcape, but it's not showing up in my Quick Equip menu.
- A: No Throne of the Herald Expansion items get added to the Quick Equip menu by default. To add or remove an item from the Quick Equip menu, select the item in your Bank, click the gear icon/tab to switch to Item Settings, then click the various toggles under the Minibar Settings area.
Pets
Q: Where can I see which Pets I have unlocked?
- A: Unlocked pets can be viewed within the Pets section of the Completion Log, which can be accessed from the left-hand side menu.
Q: Do I need to equip a Pet for the effect to be active?
- A: No. If you have unlocked a pet then the effect will be active forever, whether you want it to or not.
Q: How do I unlock a pet? I have reached the maximum skill level and still don't have it!
- A: The Pets page has the rates for each pet. If you are at a high skill level and you don't have the pet you are just unlucky, the game is not broken.
Other
Q: A Wiki page was missing some information I think should be there, can you please add it?
- A: The Wiki is a work in progress and we try to update it with as much information as possible. When new patches are released, the Wiki lags behind while new information is added. If you think something should be added to the Wiki, please let us know on Discord in #wiki-discussion.
Q: I've heard people using certain acronyms/abbreviations before, what do they mean?
- A: Please refer to the Glossary page, which contains many of the abbreviations commonly used by the community.
Bugs, Glitches and Lag
Q: I'm getting this bug/error/glitch!
A: Before you do anything else, back up your save. Then disable your mods, restart your game and see if the bug persists.
Q: My game keeps crashing on Mobile.
- If on an Android device, disable Accessibility Services.
- Disable all mods. If the game loads, slowly re-enable mods until you find the culprit.
- Load another save. Try making a new game file to see if your save(s) got corrupted. Remember to back up frequently.
- Clear your cache. Also try reinstalling the game.
Q: I'm getting significant lag or slowness.
- If on an Android device, disable Accessibility Services.
- Disable all mods. If the game loads, slowly re-enable mods until you find the culprit.
- Turn off progress bars and combat damage splashes in the settings menu.
- Your browser may be throttling Melvor Idle while the tab is in the background/not visible. For potential solutions, see: Mitigating Browser Throttling.
Q: My game has text over all of the items in my bank.
- A: You turned on the "Minor accessibility features" setting, turn it off in the settings menu.
Q: I'm still experiencing a bug after trying everything above.
- A: Search Discord or Reddit to see if others are having the same issue. You can also look at the game's issues page on Github: https://github.com/MelvorIdle/melvoridle.github.io/issues. This is the official place to make bug reports, reports anywhere else may not be seen by the devs.
Q: Why does my game show that I have only been playing for one year when my account is older than that?
- A: This statistic was only added in v1.0 which was released on November 19th, 2021. This means if your account is older than that, it will only show the time since 1.0 came out.
Saving
Q: How do I back up my save locally? Should I do it?
- A: Yes, in fact the game tells you to do this every time you select your character!
- To back up your save, go to the character select screen, and tap on the settings button on the save slot you want to back up.
- If you want to use the backup, go to the settings menu of the slot you want to replace, tap "Import save", and then paste.
- How often you back up your saves locally is a personal decision, but at least once a month at minimum is suggested. While cloud saves are great, it is possible to accidentally overwrite your cloud save and lose significant progress, so they alone should not be relied upon as a backup.
Q: Why would I need a Melvor Cloud account?
- A: Creating a free Melvor Cloud account allows you to easily swap between devices and keep your progress, and back up and recover your save files. Save files are not backed up by Steam or any other service.
Q: What are local and cloud saves? Do I need to force save?
- A: There are two types of saves: cloud, and local.
- When you are loading your game, you will want to load the most recent save.
- A: Yes. To do so, click the cog in the top right of the save you wish to transfer. There are three options:
- Create Sharable Save URL - This option creates a URL that contains your save string.
- Download Save - This downloads a text document with your save string inside.
- Export Save - This will simply show the save string.
- To import a save, click the cog in the top right of the save slot you wish to import the save to then click 'Import Save'. You can either paste the URL inside this box or the raw save string from one of the other methods.
Q: I forgot my Melvor Cloud password, can I recover my account?
- A: Click the "Forgot Password?" button on the login page and follow the instructions. If you didn't have an email associated with your account, then you can try to ask for help on Discord.
Q: I can't sign in to Melvor Cloud even though I know my e-mail address and password are correct!
- A: Ensure you are attempting to sign in using your username, not your e-mail address. If you can't remember your username, then click the "Forgot Password?" button and follow the instructions, as the e-mail you receive will mention the username associated with your e-mail address.
Q: My save isn't loading/is broken, how can I fix it?
- A: First, try disabling mods. If "Fix my Save" in Account Settings doesn't work and you can't reload an older save, there may be another issue preventing your save from working. If it doesn't work, ask on the official Discord.
Q: How did I lose progress?
- A: This is usually due to loading the older local or cloud save and then overwriting the newer one. Make sure the save you load is the newest version. If you are consistently backing up your saves locally, you can load your backup and lose less progress.
Q: My
character account was deleted!
- A: Your character died while offline, because it was hit higher than your auto eat threshold or you ran out of food or other consumables. You can see your latest hardcore cause of death at the bottom of your character select screen.
Q: Will there ever be a save reset?
- A: No, there are currently no plans for a save reset.
Other game modes
Q: How do I play Adventure or
mode?
- A: You must purchase the Full Version to play these game modes. Start a new character and choose your game mode. You cannot swap your game mode after character creation except through mods.
Q: My
character account was deleted!
- A: Your character died when offline, because it was hit higher than your auto eat threshold or you ran out of food or other consumables. You can see your latest hardcore cause of death at the bottom of your character select screen.
Q: How do I recover my
account after it died?
- A: You cannot, it's called hardcore for a reason! You can revert back to a previous save, using a save link or exported save file. You can also load an old cloud save if you have "Back up to cloud automatically" turned off in the settings, otherwise the cloud save is automatically deleted.
Q: Why is my Adventure mode character stuck at X skill level?
- A: Noncombat skills in adventure mode are limited to your Combat Level. Increase your combat level to continue leveling up your skills.
Q: What skill should I buy next in Adventure mode? How do I earn enough gp?
- A: In general, you want to increase your combat capabilities to reach 99 combat level, and earn more gp to unlock more skills. As of 12/13/22 the Adventure/Guide page is outdated but still has good advice. Notably, township is a very powerful skill in adventure mode and can generate a lot of gp and resources passively. For other money making methods look at the Money Making page.
Free Demo and Full Version
Q: What is the difference between the Free Demo and Full Version?
- A: The free demo has limited skills, items and enemies compared to the Full Version. After you get a taste of the game from the demo, consider purchasing a one-time unlock to the full version! Your progress from the demo will transfer over. For more details on the differences, read the Full Version page.
Q: Where can I buy and play the Full Version?
- A: You can buy the full version on these platforms. Note that the cost is the same for each in USD, but may be slightly different in other currencies.
- [store.steampowered.com/app/1267910/Melvor_Idle/ Buy Melvor Full version on Steam]
Q: If I buy the Full Version on X platform, can I play it on Y platform?
- A: Yes, except if you buy on mobile you are not able to play the steam version. See more details on the Full Version page.
Q: Do I need to purchase expansions separately?
- A: Yes, expansions are a separate purchase from the Full Version.
Q: Are there subscriptions or micro transactions?
- A: No, Melvor Idle only has the one-time Full Version unlock, and the Throne of the Herald Expansion.
Throne of the Herald Expansion
Q: What is this expansion?
- A: Throne of the Herald Expansion is Melvor's first expansion.
- A: Yes, if you buy the expansion anywhere you will have access to it anywhere you could already play the game.
Q: Should I buy the Throne of the Herald Expansion now or wait?
- A: If you plan on buying the expansion eventually, there's no reason to wait until you reach a certain point. You will be able to train new items once you get past lvl99 in any skill. You will also earn more mastery xp per action and find meteorites in astrology.
- Note that when you purchase the expansion, your mastery pool percentage will drop as new items are added. This one-time drop is more detrimental the more mastery pools you have filled up.
Q: I already have virtual levels past lvl99, will they carry over when I buy the Throne of the Herald Expansion?
- A: You can choose whether you want to keep your levels, or if you want to reset them back to lvl99.
Platforms
Q: Which platforms can I play Melvor on?
- A: Melvor is available on a web browser, android and iOS apps, and on Steam. Find more details on the Full Version page.
Q: Is there a difference what platform you play on? What are the benefits of the Steam version?
- A: The game is the same across all platforms apart from UI changes for different screen sizes. All features, gameplay and content are the same.
- In addition to providing access to the Full Version, the Steam version provides achievements, trading cards, Discord rich presence, no throttling (which can slow down game play in web browsers), plus all of the usual Steam features such as tracking time played.
Q: If I buy the Full Version on X platform, can I play it on Y platform?
- A: Yes, except if you buy on mobile you are not able to play the steam version. See more details on the Full Version page.
Q: If I buy the Throne of the Herald Expansion on X platform, will my account have the new content on Y platform?
- A: Yes, if you buy the expansion anywhere you will have access to it anywhere you could already play the game.
Q: Can I use the same save between the mobile/browser/Steam versions?
- A: Yes, by signing into Melvor Cloud on each platform your saves will be synced between devices. Note that:
- You will likely have to load from cloud saves when switching between versions/devices, compare the last save time of your local and cloud saves to ensure you are using your latest save
- The same save should not be used on multiple versions/devices at the same time, as doing so may result in a loss of progress
- For additional information, please refer to Save Management
Mods
Q: How do I enable mods?
- A: First, back up your save by creating a save link and pasting it in a safe place. Then, make sure you have a free Melvor Cloud account. Go to settings, and enable mods. Then go to the sidebar and tap "Mod Manager" below the minigame section. You will be prompted to make a free mod.io account, and then you can start browsing mods.
Q: Which platforms support mods?
- A: Mods are supported on all platforms. Your mods will sync between platforms as they are tied to your account.
Q: How do I turn on a mod for one character but not the other?
- A: As of v1.1.1 this is not possible. You must turn the mod on or off before switching characters.
Q: Will mods damage or break my save?
- A: Mods are written by community members and may have bugs or errors. There have not been widespread save corruptions, but its always a good idea to back up your save frequently, especially when using mods.
Q: Is this mod cheating? Will my account get banned?
- A: Many mods add cheats to your game, but nobody will be banned for cheating. This is a single player game, and the Devs encourage you to play the game in any way that is fun for you. You can modify your save file however you like.
- Note that some players have felt regret after using a mod to speed through grinds in the game. After all, this game is all about the grind journey. Players new to mods may want to stick with mods that only add quality of life features at first.
Q: Does modding my game disable steam achievements?
- A: No
Changes and upcoming features
Q: Where can I find upcoming changes?
- A: You can see all of the planned major upcoming changes on the Roadmap. Additionally, upcoming changes are posted on Discord and Reddit.
Q: Will there be a prestige system?
- A: No. The developer is not in favour of prestige systems and currently has no plans to add them.
Q: Will X feature be added to the game?
- A: Suggestions from players on what to add to the game are welcome. Join the official Discord, check out if your suggestion is in #frequent-suggestions, and if not then post your prompt in #suggestions.
Q: Will there be leaderboards or other multiplayer features?
- A: There are no plans for leaderboards in the immediate future, as much of the development time is being spent working on other features. There is a possibility that there will be leaderboards in the future, although the way they'll be implemented is still undecided.
Supporting the game
Q: How can I support the game?
- A: A lot of people find Melvor through word of mouth, so sharing it helps the community grow. If you want to help in more tangible ways, you can purchase the full version on mobile or a copy of the Steam version. Alternatively you can support the game through Patreon. You can also purchase the Throne of the Herald Expansion. However, it should be noted that Melvor will never have microtransactions.
Q: Is this game open source? Can I help develop it?
- A: Although the code has not been protected from viewing, Melvor is not open source. The developer isn't currently looking for help developing the game.
