The guide is written with the goal of idling the dungeon. If you want to do it manually, the requirements are much more relaxed, although the more DR you have, the easier it is to do anyway.
The Volcanic Cave is the dungeon that unlocks all of the Legendary dungeons. The guide covers gives recommendations on gear needed to idle this dungeon. Idling has a significantly higher skill and equipment requirements than manual clears.

Why Clear Volcanic Cave?
On each clear, you get the Fire Cape that gives 2% DR.
* Clear 1 time:
** To unlock Air God Dungeon and Infernal Stronghold
** To get the Fire Cape which grants 2% DR
** To get the Elite Chest
* Clear 50 times:
** For a Township Task that gives , SC and GP
** To start obtaining Ancient Helmet in preparation for the Air God Dungeon
* Clear 100 times:
** To unlock Ancient Magicks which gives you powerful spells such as , , and .
** To farm 100 Fire Cape for a Township Task that gives 4  Infernal Claw.
* Clear 100+ times:
** To farm for the full (G) Ancient Helmet set.
** To farm for the needed for the Fury of the Elemental Zodiacs (FEZ). Check the FEZ/Guide for more details.

Volcanic Cave is the place where you gear up in preparation for the Air God Dungeon. According to the simulation, it takes 820 clears to get the full (G) Ancient Helmet set with 75% probability and 1350 clears to get it with 95% probability.
(G) Ancient Helmet is not required for Air God Dungeon if you're willing to Manual Eat that dungeon 2-5 times. <br>
It is hotly debated what the correct course of action would be in many circumstances. This guide will not recommend either way and will merely present the options to the Player. <br>
* (G) Ancient Helmet is required for a 100% safe idle setup for Air God Dungeon, but will take an estimated 35+ hours to obtain.
* When using a Manual Eat for a couple of clears (G) Rune Helmet or (G) Dragon Helmet will suffice.

It is also a place to farm for Fury of the Elemental Zodiacs. Check the FEZ/Guide to see if it's the best option for you.

After you clear the Volcanic Cave 100 times, you will unlock Ancient Magicks - , , and .<br>
According to simulations, to get the full (G) Ancient Helmet set it will likely take:
are used when the hit chance of everything else is not high. They don't miss if you have more than 20k accuracy;<br>
* 640 clears with a 50% chance
is used to one-shot;<br>
* 817 clears with a 75% chance
is used for everything else.
* 1377 clears with a 95% chance

Ancient Magicks are not affected by damage amplification in any way except the Combat Triangle. No curses, no debuffs, no gear buffs. However, it is much stronger than the basic magic at this stage. For instance, when basic magic could clear Volcanic Cave 8 times per hour, Ancient Magicks could do it 22 times.
When to Clear Volcanic Cave?
Gear to idle
There are no downsides to attempting Volcanic Cave early as you will obtain powerful gear if you manage to complete it. However, it will be a significant challenge if you attempt this dungeon under-levelled.

The main heavy-hitter of the Volcanic Cave uses the Melee style. Therefore, clearing it with pre-Volcanic Ranged build is unfeasible due to the Combat Triangle penalties.
In general, you will want at least Hitpoints so that you can equip the Ancient Helmet and you should be able to complete Dragons Den relatively easily before attempting this dungeon. Ideally, you will want sufficient Auto Eat to survive the dungeon without resorting to manual eating, but if you take this route then see the last section for further recommendations on how to survive the dungeon the hard way.

It is assumed that you have Auto Eat - Tier III.
Ancient Magicks
After you clear the Volcanic Cave 100 times you gain access to Ancient Magicks which are a more powerful form of magic. When you have a Ancient Magicks spell equipped, there are no curses available, but you can still use Auroras.

All calculations are done for the Hardcore/Adventure.<br>
The spells you receive are:
If you play Standard and have lower HP or DR, use Can I Idle or Combat Simulator to check if you can survive with your build.
* is best used when your chance to hit is relatively low because you are guaranteed not to miss if your accuracy is 20,000+.
* is a more powerful spell and has a good chance of killing monsters in one-shot.
* is a good all rounder, and can be used in all other cases.

Melee
Ancient Magick spells do not scale in the same way as standard magic (i.e. with equipment buffs and debuffs), but they are still impacted by the Combat Triangle in the normal way. Typically, when you first obtain Ancient Magicks it is more powerful than the regular magic and so should used in preference. However, these fall off relatively quickly.

Volcanic Cave is usually done with Melee because the Dragon Helmet armor set requires only Smithing to produce. It then can be trimmed to provide 30% DR.

Below is the melee build that requires to idle the dungeon on any game mode. However, pay attention that even slightly less DR or HP will mean death for this build because it hangs a hair breadth away from the max hit of . Check with Can I Idle or Combat Simulator to see if you can idle with your build. Also, the Sandstorm Ring is very important for your clear time.

Pre-Volcanic Magic
The other possible option is Magic. Clearing the Volcano with Magic from the start is not recommended because its adjusted clear time is slower than the Sunset Rapier.
Melee
To idle the dungeon with the build below, you need and active.
The following table shows a (G) Rune Helmet setup.
Both sets have roughly the same 13 clears per hour.

100-Volcanoes Magic
Gear
After clearing the Volcanic Cave 100 times, you will unlock Ancient Magicks.
A Sandstorm Ring can be equipped for around 3.5-4 more clears per hour. This will require 1 more level in Hitpoints.

It's theoretically possible to farm the Volcanic Cave with the 20k-accuracy on the following build if you have , Magic, and a prayer active.
* Prayers: Incredible Reflexes & Chivalry

To farm the dungeon with 34% DR and without the prayer or potions, you need . Your biggest threat is with the resulting damage of 375 and your minimum HP being 377.

}}

Check if you fulfill the accuracy quota with Combat Simulator. The 20k accuracy is important because after that number cannot miss, becoming a top-DPS spell against the dungeon at this point of progression.

Weapon choice
Pre 100 Clear Volcanic Magic
The information in the table below was produced by using the Combat Simulator and the respective builds above.

{{SpoilerBox|text=
Magic is slightly higher than Melee at this point at roughly 15 clears per hour. Yet they are lower if Melee uses Sandstorm Ring.
The clears per hour are counted for a Hardcore character with level 70 in everything except Hitpoints and Magic that are adjusted for the magic setups.<br>
The requirements are however lower.
You will only need either Hitpoints and Agility or Hitpoints and no Agility.
Either Skill combination will still require you to use .

In the calculations, the time to prepare prayer points and curse runes is not accounted for because it's not as easy. In addition, the overall picture is obvious even without accounting for them.
Gear
The adjusted clear time is calculated with the notation and assumptions from the Dragons Den/Guide, but Whale (Perfect) are used as food instead of Crab.
* Spell:
* Curse:
* Prayers: Mystic Lore & Mystic Might

It should be noted that the Melee clear times become tremendously worse without the Sandstorm Ring. Only Rapier and Ancient Claw are better than Magic Wand (Powerful) in this case.

It is suggested to start using the 100-Volcanoes build as soon as you can because the and significantly slow your clear time by high evasion. 20k Slicing Winds don't miss.

Magic builds using Ancient Magicks generally produce more drops per hour than the Melee equivalents. However, due to the number of runes needed, and the non-scaling nature of Ancient Magicks, as you progress Melee builds will eventually give faster clear times.
Manual eating
The gear needed for a manual run through the dungeon is significantly lower than needed for idling. However, it also depends on how well you time your eating as this will interrupt your attack and lengthen the combat time.
In general, if you are considering a manual run it is recommended that:
* You have Defence so that you can equip the Ancient Helmet as soon as it becomes available.
* You have the highest Auto Eat tier possible to avoid accidental deaths
* You use a Melee build with a fast weapon, such as Sunset Rapier, so that you can recover quickly after eating.
* You start with the highest DR and HP so that you have an easier time.
For example, in theory, this build could work with a hard cap of 40 for all skills (i.e. Hitpoints):

In addition:
* Optionally, equip  and
* Optionally, equip Wolf and Yak
However, any improvements on this equipment set would be highly recommended as clearing the dungeon with this build would take around 780.
Manual eating has a significantly lower requirement, but requires skill to not die.
Ancient Relics Guide
Suggestions assume no Pets, Relics, Agility, Cartography or Astrology.
Just like all the previous Dungeons this will require you to Manual Eat again. <br>
It is suggested you get either Adamant Armour or Rune Armour at this point. <br>
Whichever Armour tier you choose, you will be using the same for Air God Dungeon. <br>
If you wish to continue with Magic that is possible to, you will need a Fire Adept Wizard Hat as well as skill cap Runecrafting unlocked.
Make sure you spam Eat through Prat, the Protector of Secretss Volley Attack, this attack hits 3 times. <br>
Also be mindful of Malcs, the Guardian of Melvors Double-Claw attack, this hits twice for a large amount of damage.
Melee
Melee is the slightly slower version of the 2, however it does not have a Rune cost, the Food cost is about the same.
The average clear time of this dungeon is roughly 5.5 minutes with Melee
You can use Ice Sword as an alternative, this will however take about 2.5 minutes longer to clear.
The clear speed of Adamant Armour and Rune Armour is about the same. <br>
(G) Adamant Helmet uses roughly 390 Lobster for a single clear. <br>
(G) Rune Helmet uses roughly 345 Lobster for a single clear.
Swapping in a Sandstorm Ring will greatly increase your kill speed, this may however take up to 5-8 hours to obtain and won't be used for that long. This is not recommended.
Using Occultist will greatly increase your clear speed.
* Prayers: Ultimate Strength & Incredible Reflexes
{{Equipment/Recommended

Magic
Magic has a clear time of roughly 6 minutes with the provided setup. <br>
This will require Runecrafting so the Runecrafting cap unlock needs to be obtained.
Witch has a large impact on both Food consumed and clear speed due to having to eat less. <br>
This setup uses roughly 330 Lobster per clear.

The Volcanic Cave is the dungeon that unlocks all of the Legendary dungeons. The guide covers gives recommendations on gear needed to idle this dungeon. Idling has a significantly higher skill and equipment requirements than manual clears.

Why Clear Volcanic Cave?

Ancient Armour is not required for
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Air God Dungeon
if you're willing to Manual Eat that dungeon 2-5 times.

It is hotly debated what the correct course of action would be in many circumstances. This guide will not recommend either way and will merely present the options to the Player.

According to simulations, to get the full Ancient Armour set it will likely take:

  • 640 clears with a 50% chance
  • 817 clears with a 75% chance
  • 1377 clears with a 95% chance

When to Clear Volcanic Cave?

There are no downsides to attempting Volcanic Cave early as you will obtain powerful gear if you manage to complete it. However, it will be a significant challenge if you attempt this dungeon under-levelled.

In general, you will want at least

so that you can equip the Ancient Armor and you should be able to complete

Dragons Den
relatively easily before attempting this dungeon. Ideally, you will want sufficient

to survive the dungeon without resorting to manual eating, but if you take this route then see the last section for further recommendations on how to survive the dungeon the hard way.

Ancient Magicks

After you clear the Volcanic Cave 100 times you gain access to Ancient Magicks which are a more powerful form of magic. When you have a Ancient Magicks spell equipped, there are no curses available, but you can still use Auroras.

The spells you receive are:

  • Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Winds
is best used when your chance to hit is relatively low because you are guaranteed not to miss if your accuracy is 20,000+.
  • Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Ignite
is a more powerful spell and has a good chance of killing monsters in one-shot.
  • Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Icicle Volley
is a good all rounder, and can be used in all other cases.

Standard Guide

The following Setups were calculated without any Pets,

or Potions.
These Guides will only assume the required
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Hitpoints
and
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Agility
based on not having any of those, if you do have Pets like
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Leonardo
or Finn, the Cat, you may be able to get away with slightly less.

Melee

The following table shows a Rune Armour setup. Both sets have roughly the same 13 clears per hour.

  • Rune Armour will require:

      Level 77
    • Error creating thumbnail: File missing
      Level 70
      .
  • Dragon Armour you will require:

      Level 74
    • Error creating thumbnail: File missing
      Level 50

Gear

A Sandstorm Ring can be equipped for around 3.5-4 more clears per hour. This will require 1 more level in

Hitpoints
.

Agility

Pre 100 Clear Volcanic Magic

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Magic
is slightly higher than Melee at this point at roughly 15 clears per hour. Yet they are lower if Melee uses Sandstorm Ring.

The requirements are however lower.

You will only need either

Level 72
and
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Level 50
or
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Level 78
and no

Agility

Fire Robes have the exact same stats as Air Robes. The secondary effect of robes (+20 minimum hit for matching spells) outweighs the damage increase of higher level spells. However, you should use the highest level spell and robe combination available to you.

100+ Volcanoes Magic

After clearing the

.
We will however be using

.
You will also require

Level 77
,

You can play around in the Combat Simulator to find your optimal skill and prayer combination. This has an average clear speed of 32 per hour.

Agility

Magic builds using Ancient Magicks generally produce more drops per hour than the Melee equivalents. However, due to the number of runes needed, and the non-scaling nature of Ancient Magicks, as you progress
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Melee
builds will eventually give faster clear times.

Manual eating

The gear needed for a manual run through the dungeon is significantly lower than needed for idling. However, it also depends on how well you time your eating as this will interrupt your attack and lengthen the combat time.

In general, if you are considering a manual run it is recommended that:

  • You have
    Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Level 70
so that you can equip the Ancient armor as soon as it becomes available.
  • You have the highest
    Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Auto Eat
tier possible to avoid accidental deaths
  • You use a
    Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Melee
build with a fast weapon, such as Sunset Rapier, so that you can recover quickly after eating.
  • You start with the highest DR and HP so that you have an easier time.
For example, in theory, this build could work with a hard cap of 40 for all skills (i.e.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Level 40
):

In addition:

  • Optionally, equip
    Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Ultimate Strength
    and
    Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Safeguard
  • Optionally, equip
    Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Wolf
    and
    Error creating thumbnail: File missing
    Yak

However, any improvements on this equipment set would be highly recommended as clearing the dungeon with this build would take around 13 minutes.

Manual eating has a significantly lower requirement, but requires skill to not die.

Ancient Relics Guide

Suggestions assume no Pets, Relics,
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Agility
,
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Cartography
or
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Astrology
.

Just like all the previous Dungeons this will require you to Manual Eat again.

It is suggested you get either Adamant Armour or Rune Armour at this point.

Whichever Armour tier you choose, you will be using the same for
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Air God Dungeon
.
If you wish to continue with
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Magic
that is possible to, you will need a Fire Adept Wizard Gear Set as well as skill cap
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
70
unlocked.

Make sure you spam Eat through Prat, the Protector of Secretss Volley Attack, this attack hits 3 times.
Also be mindful of Malcs, the Guardian of Melvors Double-Claw attack, this hits twice for a large amount of damage.

Melee

Melee is the slightly slower version of the 2, however it does not have a Rune cost, the Food cost is about the same.

The average clear time of this dungeon is roughly 5.5 minutes with Melee You can use Ice Sword as an alternative, this will however take about 2.5 minutes longer to clear.

The clear speed of Adamant Armour and Rune Armour is about the same.
Adamant Armour uses roughly 390 Lobster for a single clear.
Rune Armour uses roughly 345 Lobster for a single clear.

Swapping in a Sandstorm Ring will greatly increase your kill speed, this may however take up to 5-8 hours to obtain and won't be used for that long. This is not recommended.

Using

Occultist

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Minotaur
will greatly increase your clear speed.

Magic

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Magic
has a clear time of roughly 6 minutes with the provided setup.
This will require
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Level 60
so the
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Level 70
cap unlock needs to be obtained.

Witch

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Yak
has a large impact on both Food consumed and clear speed due to having to eat less.

This setup uses roughly 330 Lobster per clear.
